STUDENT-COUNCIL ELECTIONS - CAMPAIGN SEASON OPEN

With the start of May comes the beginning of Student Council Elections. Student Council election campaigns will run from the start of May through June, with the polls opening on the 1st of June and closing on the 30th. All student council candidates will be given a budget of €5,000 with which to conduct their campaign.

The Candidates are as follows:

Rex Arany (Originally running as President but swapping over)

All candidates will list out their core platform and values in the threads provided below. They will be free to campaign as much or as little as they want, and are open to manage their campaign however they wish so long as they aren’t breaking school rules, international or French law. Characters may not utilize any supernatural powers while campaigning.

Voting will be conducted in June, while the vote is ostensibly IC we will also hold OOC voting and limit to 1 vote per player per position. Characters who do not win their position will still have the opportunity to join the Student Council in the form of a cabinet. Characters running against NPC opponents will win their election automatically. The new student council will begin serving at the beginning of the new term in October.

This post is also an open mingle post, where candidates can give their opening speeches and start recruiting supporters.

[ The school president would be smart to assign a few more guards to Kano, but they're spread a little thin these days thanks to emerging Contracts. Whether Kano's bothered by it, he keeps the annoyance off his face and lets the usual bright smile take over. ]

Like constructing a banana grove and subsequently ending world hunger, all good things~ Hey! If you win, can I ask you for a favor? Will you abuse your power just a little bit for me~?

Yes! Banana groves to help combat hunger and make student nutrition even better!

Nana brightens up, then tilts her head. She's not... suspicious, exactly...

She's just not sure what sort of abuse of power this is.]

I can't abuse my power, but I'll listen to any request. So let me know and I can see what I'll do?

[suddenlybees]

[ Mmhmmm, alright. Nana should definitely be suspicious, but Kano just smiles his closed-off smile and rocks back on his heels, hands clasped behind his back. Three guards flank his sides. He can't just say. ]

I'll let you know when you win, 'kay? Listening is just fine too! Promise me that much, and I'll be satisfied~

[playitagain]

[She's learned by now: sometimes it's sweet, sometimes it's serious, sometimes it's unfettered access to things no one should be playing with.

Nana smiles, though, and nods her head.]

Of course I'll listen!

[suddenlybees]

[ Guess which one it's going to be!!! It's all contingent on her winning, though, so Kano laughs and takes a step back. ]

I look forward to it~! So, what's your campaign strategy? Rex is over there giving out piggyback rides! What're you going to bribe my vote with~?

I'm not really good at bribes...

[She laughs, then she taps a finger against her cheek as she thinks.]

I'm going to have to rely on being myself, a good platform, and plenty of baked goods!

[...that's not a bribe to her??]

[ Hmm, yeah, it's not really a bribe, since Nana's always gone out of her way to bake things for people at no cost, votes or not.

He places a hand on his chest. ]

And you've got me!! I'm very good at bribes~

[ It's called blackmail. ]

Kano-kuuuun.

[She shakes her head, but she's smiling. It's a sweet offer, if... you know... maybe not what she has in mind.]

No bribes, okay? If you want to tell people I'm the best choice, that's fine. It's okay if you convince them!

But... I want to win because people think I'm the best person for it.

[suddenlybees]

Aw, no fun~ What's school elections without a little political drama?

[ It's a joke! Maybe. ]

These sorts of things can be a popularity contest sometimes, but you wouldn't have a problem with that either... I just hope it'll be fun for you? 'cause yikes! It sounds like a lot of work! And it'll be lots of work all the time all year!!

I just have to be picky about what sort of political drama!

[She laughs, though. Then, Nana considers for a second... but she nods.]

I think it'll be okay. I know it's a lot of work, but... I just have to make it fun, right?

[suddenlybees]

Hm, yeah. That's how you get through life, after all.

[ A general "you," but also a Nana "you" and a him "you as well— there'd be no way he'd been able to keep going for so long if he didn't make fun of what he could, even if it's more often than not on other people's expense. ]

It'll be good to have a president who cares about her people. There's a lot that needs to be changed around here, after all, right?

Mm-hm. It hasn't gone wrong for me, yet.

[It's something they have in common. Make the best of things, make something fun. She errs on the side of making things into games or finding ways to make work lighthearted somehow.

Also, it's a great cure for loneliness. It makes her surrounded by people.

Nana's smiling a little more at what he says -- and then she tilts her head, but she nods. There are things she wants to change. She talked about some.]

What's the first thing you would change, if you could? [Nana glances at the guards for a second too long before looking back at Kano.]

Me? I think it would be cool if we had ziplines from building to building instead of having to walk around campus and go up all those stairs!

[ Not that he would go to class if there were ziplines, but they're speedy and convenient, like the underground faculty tunnels he takes to get from place to place except more deadly and less dark and dreary. ]

I don't know if I can get building to building but maybe we can at least get one installed!

[It's not what he meant but she's kind of figured out he probably won't say what he'd really like to see. (Especially in public.)

...and a zipline sounds cool...]

It would be really fun...

[suddenlybees]

Wouldn't it? See, this is why you'd be a great president! Rex would never waste the school's unlimited resources on something fun like that, unless they're like... sniper towers with zipline getaways~ [ Which would be useful, maybe, as opposed to ziplines just for fun. But that's besides the point. ]

Morale's important, though, isn't it~? I think, even if it doesn't work out... Yeah, alright! I think I know how to make it work!! I have everything I need, too, so I'll try it out and report back later~!

Having fun makes the hard parts worth it! They're both important.

[Of course, the charity's kind of the part that Nana really focuses on.

She smiles at him, until she realizes that he might be about to make a zipline on his own and test it. Nana's smile slowly becomes a concerned look, which prompts a head tilt and then, finally, she voices:]

...have you ever built a zipline before?

[suddenlybees]

Nope!

[ He is about to make a zipline of his own and go test it. He's fairly certain he can make it work; he's somehow managed a fire escape and rudimentary pulley system of sorts, so what's one more thing death/gravity-defying to entrust his life to? ]

K-Kano-kun! Maybe you should get some help!

[Wait.

What if he asks Toki for help?

Nana considers the ways that this could all go wrong for a second, then says:] If you're okay waiting until this is over, maybe I could... come with you? I've built stage props! I could probably help figure it out.

[suddenlybees]

[ A stage prop is something that looks the part but doesn't necessarily function, though, isn't it...? But it's still something, and as much as Kano thinks he can figure this out himself, laziness wins out. ]

Until it's all over... You mean winning presidency? In that case, campaign hard, Nana-chan!! Try to win before my first test-run, and we can troubleshoot it together~!

[playitagain]

I-I actually meant after this event is over. Besides, if I want to sponsor building a zipline... I should know how they work, right?

[That might be an excuse on her part.

She still goes with it.]

[suddenlybees]

[ The event is taking too long and there aren't enough bribes to sustain his interest for much longer. He needs to go back and get another piggyback ride from Rex and then decide where to throw his vote. ]

Hm~ Lots of people sponsor things they know nothing about, probably! But you're right~ It'd be good to be well-informed!! Just the sort of thing expected from the president!

Yes, exactly! It’s responsible. I can come by when we wrap up here?

[Nana’s not gonna think too hard on how this fits into the plan.

She’s just going to accept at face vale that riding a zip line will be fun. Building one will be pretty fun. Building one that Kano will be pretty safe on is a bonus.

And if it’s questionably related to the campaign... hey, it works.]
