Memory Sharicus - Oh No, not again!
About 8 am on July 15th, Rex does something stupid in his usual genius way. It was meant to be a small, simple test run of a method to scan a person and instantly gain all the data he needed to produce a Phantom.
The small field the spell was meant to spread just kept growing, until popping like a bubble with the most counterintuitive sound of all- two seconds of white noise, sounding as if it was coming from inches away. Not everyone heard it. But everyone who did...
It's a painless process, almost ticklish and instantaneous as numerous coloured orbs fly out from their chest, taking wild curving trajectories that launch them all over the academy and some of Soleil, coming to a sudden stop and hovering silently for just a few seconds.
That's when they start to slowly float towards the nearest possible recipient of the memory they contain, accelerating as they get closer as if thought and mind have a unique sort of magnetism.
It's sort of beautiful to see, really, not that Rex will notice because 60% of his mind is consumed with fear he will get into trouble and the Phantom project will be compromised. On the other hand, the Phantom project could provide the perfect scapegoat. So about six hours after the initial event, he released his latest creation- the Phantom mischief-maker, Waggery!
What a disaster.
(( ooc: The planning post is here! Be careful to warn for the nastier memories! If you already have memories planned to share, feel free to write them as a top level or just put up your character and link to the planning/make it a free for all. There'll be a post below for Waggery shenanigans and random NPC memories up for grabs. ))

"Okay, so..." he rolls his hand around in a slow circle. "You see those weird marbles around campus yet? Happened to touch any of them or anything?"

It takes a second from there. His face falls. He's really glad Avery's shut the door.
"Oh," He says dully. "You mean you saw... that." He lets out a puff of air and goes to lean on the desk, arms folding over his chest. He stares off at nothing for a moment.
Then, "Are you okay?"

He frowns, "Ah, sure. I guess? I'll answer what I can."
He's not really sure what to question.

"Food poisoning," He says simply.
Wait. He squints. "You're not going to make a joke about this are you? I mean if you really saw it, you would have seen that I clearly didn't choke. I've heard that joke a thousand times and it's not funny."
no subject
Avery grimaces. Great. He's the one who's going to have to mention it. "Food poisoning doesn't end with you coughing up blood."
no subject
"So I went a little hard on the Tequilla. Or there was something sharp in the food, whatever. It wasn't like there was a lot of blood."

He lowers his hands and looks Héctor in the eye. "You were poisoned."
no subject
"Ay, Avery, I get you're concerned or something but... why would anyone do that? I was just some guy. And anyway, this isn't the middle ages, who the heck poisons people these days?"
He sighs. "It wasn't a great way to go, and I'm sorry you had to see that, but that doesn't make it more than it is."
no subject
"Think whatever you want, but I know arsenic poisoning when I see it, Héctor. The effects were made exceedingly clear to me when I was young. Practically part of standard education."
no subject
"Okay, first, that's super messed up. I know time periods and all but still. Second, say you were right. Why the heck would any cook, even at a really crappy restaurant, just dump arsenic of all things in one person's food? Some person they'd never even met? Even if the guy was a total sociopath, doing something like that just to me? When they won't even see the messed up results?" It's crazy. It's way over the top. There's zero motive, zero reason for any of that.
"I'll budge for maybe... I don't know, a really bad allergic reaction or something. But Arsenic? I'm not doubting your education but there's got to be some wires crossed here. Some kind of similar bad reaction or something."
no subject
"Didn't even go through the trouble of taking it slow and making it look like a sickness. Just went straight to the killing." He'd say it's brutal, but frankly he's done worse.
Definitely cowardly though. Super cowardly.
no subject
"I've had people try and murder me over the past few years now and while obviously, I think they suck, they all had what was more or less a pretty obvious motive. There's no reason for some stranger to kill me back then." The more he goes, the less sense it makes. And you know, in some cases, he could understand if someone wanted him dead but not this one.
"And!" He continues, "There was a witness! Ernesto went to the same place I did and he walked out fine! Now if the Outlands hadn't gotten involved, he would've obviously had to take me somewhere to get autopsied. They'd be found out! Who the heck would be so stupid to set themselves up like that?"
no subject
"Fine, fine. Whatever you say. But if it DOES turn out to be arsenic, I reserve the right to say 'I told you so.' And you better believe I'll do it, too."
no subject
Shouldn't he know? He's the one who died! To be fair, Maverick had jumped to the murder thing before he said how he died but the whole thing is still ridiculous.
"Have you considered, I don't know, the fact that you're a murderer yourself and a little bit paranoid for it? You're predisposed to assuming the worst in people."
no subject
no subject
He'd wonder why their friends but he's had to justify it to himself enough that he knows all too well. And so he only shakes his head.
"Still a murderer, still prone to seeing the worst. And there's also no way anything could turn out to be anything else. Again, already dead. I'm not going to do a take two."

"Well, even if this was... something." That sure is a way to put it. "It's nice to have the proof right here that you'd let me know if you thought anything was up. And I'm sorry you went had to feel all that too."
no subject
He doesn't address the other statement. Easier to put as much distance between him and it as possible.
