Who: Yuya + You
What: Yuya returns from his disappearance, and then runs away again but this time to a school sanctioned vacation.
When: 07/20, then 07/24-07/31
Where: Campus, and then Azores Islands
Warnings: Probably discussions of trauma?? Otherwise nah
[Return | July 20]
[It's the middle of the morning by the time Yuya finally makes it back to campus, after having completely disappeared and refused contact since the 16th. Gongenzaka found him first, and he left Odd Eyes outside as they trudged up to his room to change out of smelly clothes and talk.
Later, though, he's out sitting on a bench on the path between the Lumiere dorms and the class buildings, staring down at his phone in his hand. He's answering people again, he's sure he worried his friends. He doesn't know how to go up to all of them, though, and apologize for... this.
He's not hiding anymore, at least, but it's a weight that's hard to push past. But at least he's come back.]
[Relaxation | July 24-31]
[And in the next few days his world doesn't end, so he starts to find some hope that things will be okay for now. He'd already intended to go along with the school trip to the Azores Islands later in the month, and ultimately he decides to hold himself to that. That's the real benefit of a luxury school, isn't it? All expense vacations.
It really is beautiful. His worries aren't exactly lifted, and the night laying in bed are so hard, but he can put on a braver smile during the day as he hikes through the forests, swims in the lake, runs along the sand and soaks up the sun. He can't hide his scars all the time in this instance. Not the dozens of long, jagged ones that drag down his whole back or the thin, straight one on his chest over his heart. But he doesn't acknowledge them if nobody asks or stares too openly. Just so he doesn't invite questions he doesn't want to answer.
He is, otherwise, being more sociable than before he left. Maybe find some watermelons to smash open...]

Valvatorez and Gongenzaka | July 22
Professor Valvatorez?
no subject
It's better that way, probably, and...
He cuts his thoughts there, focusing on the office and hoping Valvatorez is in.
And also, more slightly, that Valvatorez does not mention that thing he did in the Herald fight.]
no subject
Ah yes, come in Yuya.
[And then he notices when he turns toward the door, that Gon was with him as well. ....Okay, this was different. He figured he'd play this one a little safe. He didn't know for sure if Gon knew anything about what he an Yuya had been discussing, so in the interest of keeping privacy, he kept things close to the vest for now.]
Ah, and Gongenzaka as well. How may I help you both today?
no subject
[Zarc, probably, but he won't say the name and confirm it.]
no subject
But, I realized...there could be something I myself learned, from a previous mission, which could be relevant...
no subject
...I see. Very well.
[Instead of going over to his desk this time, he walked up to one of his bookshelves, pulling out a tome about daemons. He knew this one contained passages about Zarc.]
In truth, I've been doing some additional reading on the subject myself in light of our previous discussions. What did you both find out?

[Dang straight he's implying Yuuya's been possessed since he was born. And then some. It makes sense- after all...] ...I do not think it would be...after, [he admits, looking to Yuuya.] ...For the most part...other than the one who worried, they presumed that piece, would have faded into nothing...
no subject
...A shard.... [He repeats, thoughtfully.] ...A shard of his daemonic soul escaping his total destruction.
[He wasn't going to be rash, but... honestly.]
...Gon, that very well sounds like the piece we were missing from this equation. I was suspicious about the close link in age between Yuya and Zarc's defeat, but the timeline didn't match quite right. Something about it didn't seem right, but...
[He sets the book down on the desk, idly opening it to a passage he had bookmarked about the daemon.]
An unborn child would have no ability to resist possession, and would make for a fully capable vessel. ...Damn, I was a fool to not consider that possibility sooner. A daemon of his power...
[Still, before finishing that thought, he stood more upright, his expression gravely serious.]
Additionally... during that little bit with those free roaming memories... I came into contact with a memory I believe was from Zarc himself. [He turns his eyes over to Yuya, where they soften a bit.] ...I believe Gon's theory is correct.
...I no longer doubt that some fragment of Zarc's very soul inhabits your body.
no subject
[He takes a deep breath.] So... why hasn't it been anything besides Nightmares?
no subject
And blinks again. And-] ....If...Yuuya should not have been able to fight off such possession however...
...Yuuya, [he continues, looking to the other.] ...You have been 'you' for all of this time. If the only options for this shard were to take you, or fade...
[Gears are turning, but he isn't quite getting to a solid conclusion- Gongenzaka furrows his brows, crossing his arms- listening carefully one can catch mutterings about likening the matter to lycans and blight, the only real area of expertise Gongenzaka can particularly refer to. His own mutterings involve debunking that sort of connection by way of Yuuya never having to fight off any sort of daemonic instincts or similar to his knowledge though, so there goes that.
He's just muttering and brainstorming, ignore him,]

[The vampire slowly ran a hand through his thick, black hair. Sounds like the puzzle mostly had come together, but of course... the answers weren't pretty ones. There would still be work to do... but with answers, a plan could be made.]
...Nightmares, and that weakness you had to anti-daemonic magic. That alone tells me that Zarc never actually faded from you. His soul has had some impact on your body and your development, that much cannot be denied. So he is a part of you, without a doubt.
But considering you've never shown any of Zarc's other tendencies, or any other sort of severe daemonic influence... I would say he's just that: a part of you. If that shard of him was strong enough to enforce his will, he likely could've consumed you long before now if that's what he wanted.
However, with what we're presented, I frankly think that you, Yuya, are the true dominant force in your body. Zarc's nightmares and fragments of his consciousness might affect you in your sleep, but they seem to have little impact on your ability to function as an individual. Your ability to think, act, empathize, make friends, and all of that are yours, and he hasn't been able to influence you out of that.
So what remains of Zarc might well be you, but you are not him. Accepting this might be difficult, but it does not change the kind of person you are. In the end, you are you, just as you have always been, and how you will continue to be.
no subject
Is there a way to get rid of it?
no subject
Zarc was meant to 'fade', from what is known. In that sense...would there be a thing to get rid of? Or would what traits remained have simply become yours, instead? ...An 'echo' of what was there, [he adds, blinking.]
....though... ...if there was a way... [Nightmares and burns suck, and he's already looking at that burn mark. He's trying not to ask where it came from.]
no subject
Normally, in the case of possession, exorcisms and other such tricks would usually work. But your case is anything but normal. Most people possessed by a daemon aren't necessarily going to be vulnerable to anti-daemonic powers themselves, just the daemon within.
[Val looks toward Yuya's arm, seeing the healing burn. ...He wondered... but he couldn't be sure.]
You though... you've shown susceptibility to it. Zarc's influence on you isn't limited to being a mere "hanger-on" if that's the case. Frankly, I do not know if he can be removed, or if it even is safe to do so. I cannot in good conscience recommend you try anything of the sort... not without some serious magical examination first.

[He BELIEVES IN IT,]

Such resolve. I believe he's right, though.
As I said, if he hasn't overcome you by now, I doubt he ever will. If he failed to overpower you when you were but an unaware child, or at any time you showed weakness, he certainly won't be a match for you now that you're older, more mature, and know exactly who you're dealing with.
If anything, I have to believe you're going to be the one who gets stronger over time, if you can master your own fear about the matter.

[oh,] ...Do you...feel someone will come after you for this, Yuuya?
no subject
But in the end, I cannot make that call on your behalf. You must do what you believe is right.
[But Gon's question is a good one... and one that needs to be addressed.]
...If you ever feel unsafe, contact either myself or someone else from the faculty. No matter what, you are still our student, and we will protect you. I, for one, will be there in a flash, should you ever need me.

[He sighs, before tilting his head back to Val and manages a faint smile.] But thanks.
