Fixer-Upper (Aube Floor 3)

[ Multiple midnight dumpster runs later, Peter finally has a decent collection of stuff to work on here. The common room on the third floor of Aube has been temporarily taken over by junk and tools, which have been loosely sorted into different piles. Here's a bunch of electronic parts. Here's some casings that seem mostly intact. These are screens, that appears to be a pile of ancient game console tidbits... The biggest item is an old CRT TV that is just wrecked. But - it's not what he's working on right this second. No, he seems to be focused on multiple funny-looking bracelets laid out on a cloth. He's had at least three requests for webshooters by now, and he aims to get them done today. Also, finally fix the one that Kano busted.

See what he's up to? Yell at him for taking up all the space? Or maybe if you ask him nicely, he'll build something fun for you.

In this prompt (as well as all of the others!) Peter has a fresh set of claw marks on his face. The cuts are clean and healing nicely, but obviously very fresh. Someone ran into something nasty lately. ]

STARR Club

[ Who the hell was dumb enough to let Peter start a club again? Oh wait, this is technically Gohan's fault probably. Though honestly, it's safer than just letting all these technically inclined idiots blow up their dorm room or something.

The STARR Club (Science, Technology And Runes/Robotics) was technically up and running in the first few days of school. Pete's definitely been in and out doing stuff. But now? It's officially, definitely open, and Peter is heading up the first meeting. He's. Frankly a bit overwhelmed? Please someone else take this over so he can go back to making webshooters in the corner like he actually wants to do. ]

So uh - I guess we need rules? Or something? To be official.

[ He has a whiteboard set up, on which he already has a helpful list started:

Soleil, Returning Late

[ Of course that just covers the daytime activities. At night ... Peter tries to sleep, he really does, but inevitably he wakes up at some point and just needs to leave. Swing out to Soleil, get some fresh air come back at an ungodly hour, whatever. Today he's donned his hobo spider suit to go foil some midnight muggings in the local town. He's also taking a swing through campus too, so maybe you see this mysterious Spider-Man out and about?

Or, perhaps worse, you catch him just as he's sneaking back into Aube at 3 AM. The suit is tucked away, but he definitely is sneaking through the hallways up to his room, trying not to look guilty. ]

Spider Astronomy - CLOSEDish

[ Whose idea was this again? It doesn't really matter, honestly; Peter would have been up here regardless and the other two spider kids are nerdy enough this likely appealed to them too. Early in the morning of January 21st, Peter sneaks his way up to the roof of the Aube dorms, carrying a duffel bag full of junk with him. It's cold, as always, but the night is clear, and they have a perfect view of the moon. Pete's here to set up some blankets, put together the world's worst telescope, and watch the lunar eclipse with Gwen and Miles. He's even gotten a couple thermoses full of hot soup from the kitchen. ]

D'you think the faculty does some kind of weird blood moon ritual or something for this?

[ It wouldn't surprise him, honestly. This place is weird enough already.

Of course if you're up on the roof at about the same time (doing the same thing, maybe!) it wouldn't be hard to run into the trio. ]

[Toki carefully draws the runes down, copying one backwards and leaving one line missing on a second.]

Now we wait, I guess!

[The paper... melts into a blue gooey substance.]

Interesting.

[ UHHhhhh. He. Pokes it with a finger? ]

This is the opposite of fire.

Oh! I messed up! That one's backwards~!

[He tries again, correcting the backward rune, and the missing line now fixed.]

Okay! I think I got it right this time!

[A tree starts growing out of the page, rapidly. Roots sprawl out, knocking over things in the lab and upsetting other ongoing experiments. Branches extend and break the window. The top of the tree pushes up through the ceiling tiles.]

I guess those were leaves~!

-- Whoa!

[ Peter jolts back as a freakin tree appears in their lab, kind of gawking up at it. ]

Dude, that's amazing! Completely wrong, but.

That... might be enough experimenting for today!

[He certainly doesn't want to end up setting the tree on fire by mistake.]

Yeah uh - runes are kind of dangerous, huh?

[ He's delighted, though. And already flipping through the book to look for more. ]

D'you think there's one for turning invisible? I got grounded for like two weeks.

Oh, there has to be something for invisibility~! That would be so useful!

[Caution thrown to the wind, experiment away.]

What did you do?

I kept sneaking out without telling the RA. And he's, like super mad about it.

[ So clearly, the answer is an invisibility rune and not actually behaving. ]

You can totally use an invisibility rune inscription for that! What would the book diagram look like though? A ghost?

[His floor doesn't have an RA, and he's very happy with that arrangement.]

[ Uhhh. Good question. ]

I dunno? Maybe? We can try it anyway.

[Toki grabs the book and searches for something ghost-like. The drawing he finds is of a vaguely human-shaped pale thing.]

Maybe this one? I made the tree; it's your turn!

[ That sure is human-shaped? And it seems to be fading out so that seems like invisibility. ]

Okay, lemme draw it out.

[ He starts sketching slowly. ]

D'you think it'll work if we attach it to something not us?

Oh. I don't know! It does look human! Maybe it won't work on inanimate objects~!

[So much logic. He holds out his arm for Peter to write on instead.]

[ To his credit, Peter is a little reluctant. ]

Dude. Are you sure? What if it turns you into something weird?

[That was a good point, and judging from the artifacts room, they probably shouldn't be messing with well, anything.]

Just mark the page in case something goes wrong, so we can fix it later~!

Okay, okay. I can do that.

[ He dutifully marks the page, then starts working on Toki's outstretched arm. This is such a bad idea? Like, he already knows this is a bad idea. But he leans gently against Toki's arm, working anyway.

It's ... not ... bad? Not accurate, but not horrible. He sits back, observing his handiwork. ]

Did that do anything?

[ It doesn't look like it did anything. But if Toki tries to touch anything (or anyone), he'll find his body is now going through everything. Like a ghost! ]

It doesn't feel like it did! But I didn't feel anything at the assembly either.

[He's definitely not invisible, though. He looks at his arm, and Peter's rune drawings are a little squiggly and somewhat off, but at least nothing was backwards or upside-down.]

It should have done something~!

[Considering the goo and the tree. 'Nothing' was an unexpected outcome. Oh, well. Toki reaches for the book again and his hand slides through it, and the table. Uhh.]

Maybe 'ghost' wasn't a good concept for invisibility!

[ UHHHHH. ]

Dude. Dude. It like - turned you into a ghost or something!

[ He carefully puts his hand through Toki's chest. That's so creepy. ]

[He looks down at Peter's hand. He can't feel it go through him. That was kind of... awesome.]

This could be used for so many things~!

Also, how do we get the rune off now?

It should just wash off, I think. That's how it worked before.

[Oh. But...]

Would water just go right through!?

Yeah, that's exactly it. I don't know how to make ghost water.

[ Pppppause. ]

Maybe if I write it on the faucet?

[It might do something to the faucet instead of the water, but it's worth a try.]

What do you write on it, though?

[Maybe there's a 'cancel all effects' inscription, but what would it look like? Someone needs to learn French.]

The ghost rune again? So it spits out ghost water.

[ He's gonna try it!! And result in the pipe going ghostly and just spraying water everywhere, gg. ]

[...and soon the lab will be flooded.]

This became a big problem quickly!

[Backing away from the spraying water, he bumps into a chair and actually makes contact.]

Hey! It just wears off by itself!

[So if they stop touching things, again, there will potentially be no further problems, except the tree situation. Somehow, that's still there.]
