[Arriving and getting settled in would, hopefully, be a quick affair. Even if it's taking a bit for V to actually get to his new room himself, he's actually sent Shadow ahead to check out the room ahead of time--the panther can't talk, of course, so he can't actually greet V's new roommate, but he can sure slide under the door in shadow form to get a look around. And maybe claim the bed as his own for a while.]

Lumiere, Floor 3
[It seems the floor has a trio of new occupants! Usually the human member of the trio in all his deathly pale, heavily tattooed glory can be caught by himself, and he's friendly enough, if a bit quiet. Since classes haven't started, he's mostly spotted wandering to and from the library. Sometimes he can be found in the common room on the floor, accompanied by either a bird or...

Is that a fucking panther? Yes. Yes, it is. It's slinking around the floor. Laying on the couches in the common room. Just. Being the oversized cat it is. If Shadow fits, Shadow sits.]

Library
[Of course, V's most common haunt is the library. He can be found there for ridiculous stretches of time, buried into whatever books catch his interest. Which is a lot. There's mostly books on runes and magic, but there's also... a lot of William Blake books? Someone has a favorite. If he's at the shelves reaching for a book, he'll pause if someone else is reaching for it too.]

Ah--pardon me... did you need that?

[He'll retract his hand immediately, just in case.]

Ah... yes. I just arrived yesterday. [He runs his thumb over the spine of one of the books he's picked up.] ... Call me V.

Just yesterday? [Why are you here in the library, then!!] I'm Hieke.

[He smiles at him, a little awkward and a little shy.]

I'm part of the medical staff, so...hopefully we don't see each other too much?

It doesn't take much for me to get settled.

[V returns the smile though.]

I'll try to make sure I'm not coming by more than necessary... though, I make no promises. I'm not the sturdiest and despite my attempts at caution... I'm something of a magnet for misfortune, I'm afraid.

Used to moving around a lot, then?

[Which is not necessarily surprising. Daybreak takes all sorts.]

Well...you wouldn't be the only one. [He laughs, shaking his head.] But I'll keep that in mind.

[He nods.]

I tried not to stay in the same place very long if I could help it.

[He's not really sure what would've happened to him otherwise, and he doesn't really want to think about it.]

I will, however, be... proactive about coming in if I do need it. I suspect there's a few around here who aren't so willing to look after their health.

So you decided to come here?

[He sounds amused, and he brushes his hair out of his face. It doesn't do much, as it just falls right back into place, but it's the principal of the thing.]

I appreciate that. You're not wrong that most of the people here are...stubborn, until it's almost too late.

It's not wandering through the Outlands, I'll take it.

[He chuckles. Not only that... it'd be easier to complete his end of his contract from a place like Daybreak--if he's fighting Nightfall himself, why not align himself with the institution that has the same goal?]

Let's just say I've had experience with those types.

Ah. How many years were you there?

[He looks human, after all. Chances are good he wasn't born in the Outlands.

...And he can't really blame him for choosing Daybreak over the Outlands. He did the same.]

Heh. Haven't we all?

[Somehow it feels longer.]

That's quite some time.

Yes...You see a lot of types like that, on the field. They're lucky we're pretty proactive.

A bit of both, perhaps. There were parts I wouldn't trade for the world, and some... Ah... Never again.

[No more run-ins with giant metal monstrosities for him, thanks.]

They certainly are... but I suppose in some cases, the stubbornness is part of their charm.

That seems to be how most people feel about the Outlands.

[He laughs softly - he'd definitely include himself in that.]

...Sometimes, yeah. Sometimes you just want to hit them upside the head until they get their shit together.

There's a lot of it that's worth seeing, should one not mind the dangers... but really, doesn't that apply to Earth as well?

[A smile tugs at the ends of his mouth.]

Usually it's that, yes.

I suppose it does - though a lot of the dangers recently seem to be coming from the Outlands.

[He tilts his head, before huffing out a laugh.]

Have you had to play caretaker to someone too stubborn for their own good, too?

Well, I suppose I can't argue there. I suppose being in the thick of it has gotten me used to the Outlands' dangers.

[He chuckles.]

Not quite, but someone I knew very well was. It was a long time ago, but... well, perhaps he hasn't changed at all.

That tends to happen to people - danger becomes the new normal.

[He tilts his head, raising an eyebrow.]

You never know. Sometimes people are capable of changing for the better.

It's true.

[He chuckles.]

Oh, I've no doubt about that. I myself am an example of that. But sometimes certain qualities are stubbornly ingrained in people no matter what--stubbornness in not taking care of themselves in particular tends to be one of them.
