Who: Yuya, people invited to his birthday

Where: Dresden, Germany
What: Yuya goes on a birthday excursion for with everyone he invited and who also talked their way into an invitation

Yuya spends the few days leading up to the first of March in a barely contained excitement as he plots out how to best use the school's helicopter transport, deliver word of mouth invites, and set a time to celebrate his 15th. Ultimately it's decided that because the trip is a few hours to make it a day event, with the helicopters taking off early and returning late into the night. Sticking with the group is probably advisable, although with so much time it's expected some people will wander. Yuya just wants a day to spend with his friends, instead of doing anything intricate.

The early hours are largely spent touring and window shopping, taking long walks through the markets, sampling food, or appreciating the rich art history on display. There's a lot of museums, parks, and it's the bright clear day. Chilly, though, so hopefully everyone brought jackets.

In the afternoon, they can hitch a ride on one of the paddle streamers along the river Elbe. It's a few hours of tour that takes them by the castles. The tickets aren't too expensive, but if someone can't afford it Yuya will spend some of his own money to spot them the ticket.

After the sun starts to wane and the temperature drop, it's off to warmer places. For those with the cash to spend, there's an opera house they might be able to catch a show at. Otherwise, the plan is to crowd up in some bakery-style restaurant for dinner and cake.

[ Yuya should probably bring this back around, because Kano's definitely forgotten where he's going with this, he's comfortably holed himself up somewhere and is just enjoying a stupid conversation. ]

[On someone's roof in the cold, but Kano is going somewhere with this isn't he? Yuya rocks on his heels in suspense.]

[ It's probably pretty obvious where Kano was going with this, a birthday present from somebody who isn't as rich as Yuya's other friends, who's had to resort to accepting his friend's weekly allowance to make ends meet. But for Kano, the gifts he holds most dear aren't material ones- they're experiences, and something like this... he thinks Yuya would like.

Yuya doesn't see anything at first, but will hear a whistle, low to high up into the sky where there's a sudden burst of light— it's fireworks. The classic peony fireworks, in showers of bright golds and reds that light up the sky and fizzle out into darkness, with all the accompanied whistles and bangs, just without the pressure that Yuya would normally feel in his chest, or the lingering trail of smoke if these were real fireworks.

It's just this, lasting only a minute or two, a little fireworks show just for Yuya. ]

[Oh.

Oh.

Yuya had been impatient in his suspense, but whatever he was expecting to see wasn't that. It catches him off guard, watching the first two explode before he pulls his phone up, just under his nose to record a piece of the show as he stares at it directly with wide eyes.

He doesn't need the fireworks to put pressure in his chest.

For the first minute after the last firework, he stands awed in the cold. His fingers are numb and slow, but finally he shakes his stupor enough to send a text.]

[ They're simple words, but for Kano to create an illusion for Yuya to see, it means he's also hiding somewhere close by, and watches Yuya's face the entire time, worrying at his lip when Yuya pulls his phone out to record the fireworks. ]

[Ring ring.

Kano's getting a voice call instead of a text. Pick up?]

[ It takes a few moments before Kano picks up, because- for whatever reason- he feels the need to get somewhere else to answer the call so his voice doesn't give his hiding place away, like it even matters at this point. ]

Hihi~ Kano speaking~!

[Yuya takes a deep breath, audible over the line.]

THANK YOU KANOOOOO~!

[And then he laughs, bright and happy.]

[ Oh geez—-

Getting somewhere else was a moot point after all, because he's pretty sure Yuya can hear his own voice somewhere down the street blasting through the speakers of Kano's phone. ]

You're welcome!! I can really feel the exclamation marks!

[Yuya tapers off to a giggle, moving to the edge of the roof to get down.]

Want to go back to the helicopters together?

Yep~ I've got everything done that I wanted to get done, so let's go back~! It was a good day!!

[ Sorry he didn't spend much of it with the birthday boy, but he figures Yuya has enough friends he'd brought along that he'd be splitting his time up between all of them anyways, so it doesn't matter at all that Kano weren't there. He's here now! Trotting up from the other side of the street when Yuya gets back onto the ground. ]

[Yuya ends the call when he sees Kano in view, still grinning.] What else were you busy with?

[It was a whole day, so with his absence Yuya takes that lead up that he either had tourist things that took priority, or maybe something for someone else...]

Hm? You know, this and that~

[ It's a non-answer that Kano gives him, which is probably to be expected by now. ]

I wonder if anybody brought take-out boxes of the leftovers? Maybe I can mooch something off somebody~

You missed dinner and now you want what we ate? [Yuya puts his hands on his hips.] You're out of luck! You'll have to settle for what's at school.

[As if that's really settling at rich as hell magic school.]

Aw, is there really nothing left!? Maybe I should've expected it, with Minako coming along...

[ Yeah, he's only getting his hopes up. But he doesn't seem to bothered by the prospect of going the rest of the night without food, because it's not as if his eating schedule is any better than his sleep schedule anyways. ]

How was dinner, though? Was it good? What flavor cake did you get? Were you able to blow out all the candle? Did you make a wish?

It was really good! And instead of one cake, we got one of everything and shared it! [Despite the scolding, Yuya's already excited again remembering the meal.] There were so many flavors, Nana and I made a game out of it!

A party platter of cakes, huh? Sounds like the best way to do it, getting to try all sorts of different things~ How'd the game go? Did you win?

Getting to eat all that food was winning either way! [He laughs.] It was a really good day.

[He stuffs his hands in his pocket.] Did you have fun?

[ Was it fun... That's not the word he would use to describe it, but it was a comforting sort of day, where he got to be outside and do what he wants and have no obligation to anything else besides his self-imposed list of things to get done.

In response, he smiles. ]

Yep, it was fun~ Thanks for inviting me, Yu~ya.

[Well... at least he had fun, Yuya thinks, even if it wasn't with him and everyone else.]
