Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
The daemon base was large, a massive obsidian skull carved from the base of a black, foreboding mountain within the Outlands and surrounded by a forest of dead trees. This was inevitable, as accompanying faculty could explain. As much as it could influence the human world, the Outland was heavily influenced and shaped by human thought and culture. Weaker daemons, such as those within the base, would find their personality, forms, and even desires inexorably shaped by the thoughts of humanity and what was perceived humans would expect and fear.
The focus of the two main assault groups would be the clearing of the main hall and the lower dungeons. The groups will be divided as follows:
Main Hall:
Ky
Mav
Kanata
Tyzias
Gunvolt
Bumblebee
Main Hall Support:
Toki
Kano
Dungeon:
Valvatorez
Goro Akechi
Ren
Minako
Naoki
Keith
Dungeon Support:
Ekkehardt
James
Control Room Supervisor:
Yang
To get through to the fortress proper, the students will have to make their way through the forest. This is an open log, even for those who didn’t sign up and will consist of clearing a path and fighting off living trees and mimics in the form of any number of objects that would otherwise be expected in forests such as rocks, brambles, bushes, and other foliage..
The Main Hall is lined with massive rooms full of daemons such as the banquet hall, treasure vault, and throne room where the daemon lord resides. The Daemon Lord is the target here, and he’ll be well-guarded. Beware! Many of the rooms are trapped with mimics taking the form of treasure chests, braziers, boxes, barrels, and just about any other item.
The Dungeons are where captured humans are kept and tortured. The objective is to free the humans and defeat the Jailer, a powerful Daemon who runs the chambers. Students should beware, doppelgangers are said to be commonly slipped in amongst prisoners to ferret out rebellion and will be hidden in with those who are to be rescued.
The Control Room is located in the Citadel, with a massive monitor visualizing the area with floor plans and video feeds. All students and faculty will be wearing small cameras that will record live footage, and will be wired with a communication earpiece that will let those in the Control Room communicate freely. Students working in the Control Room will be able to relay data and information, and use the powerful supercomputers to analyze items on the ground in near real-time.
DUNGEON - Valvatorez, Goro, Minako, Ren, Ekkehardt, James

As they entered into the dungeon, Valvatorez's face and eyes initially appeared impassive, almost uncaring to the screams and wails of the abused prisoners. He scarcely batted an eye as he saw the severity of the wounds inflicted upon them. Outwardly, by all accounts, the vampire appeared almost ambivalent to it all. The intensity in his eyes never appeared to change either; he appeared as focused as he did on the way in and with the march through the forest. It might almost appear eerie that he'd look so... callous about the matter.
But that's just what he looked like. In a quiet moment, when he was sure they weren't going to be attacked immediately, he turned and addressed his team. His voice, however, when he spoke, was quiet, but passionate. It seethed with a daemonic fury barely contained.
"Burn this sight into your minds, my students. This is what we fight. This is what daemons who lack pride and nobility will do to innocent lives. Even if I still was a Tyrant, I would find this utterly repugnant."
And that's when he was more uncaring toward human life. It wouldn't take much to imagine how he feels about it now... and given what motivated his change, to say it strikes at the very core of his being would be underselling it.
"If any of you still have any inkling to show mercy, turn around and leave now, because there will be none for the daemons here today. They will all breathe their last in this fetid gaol, and we will save these people. But remember these souls are depending on you. Do not be reckless with your anger. Use it with focus and discipline, and send each one of these bastards back to the pit they spawned from."
The vampire tersely drew his sword.
"Work together. Stay together. Don't split the group. Listen to the support team, and follow my orders. And I will be here to protect and support you all... but this is your show. Show these fools what the sword of justice is capable of. Are we clear?"

"No worries, professor. I'm here to take out the trash."

But he wasn't alone. Here, in view of other students and the faculty of Daybreak, he was just a simple Flame with no real practical experience and certainly no daemonic contract. So, despite his fury, he remained in his white and red outfit, a bow and quiver with a small number of orichalcum tipped arrows strapped across his back and laser sword in his left hand. It had been a struggle to hold back from showing his full skill on the way in, and even so, it was clear he had some experience with swordplay and martial arts. There's a look of clear anger behind his own red mask, in eyes that seem to lose their reddish hue in favor of brown when he dons this outfit.
"Completely. I won't let any other innocents suffer at their hands."

A lot of times, there would be torture.
He rolls his shoulders, clearly impatient. As much as Val's spiel rings hollow for him, there's still a nugget of truth in there. This is wrong, and Naoki's going to fix it. He decided that the second he came in. Something writhes uneasy in his stomach.
"Let's just go." he says, finally, and starts off ahead of the group.

For someone so often expressive and lively, it is perhaps unsettling how quiet Minako is. She doesn't have a mask to hide behind like her fellow wildcards, but she still manages to remain visibly unfazed, even as Valvatorez launches into his rousing speech. But underneath the surface, she burns with rage. Everything about this is abhorrent, and it takes every ounce of willpower in her to keep Minako from charging in.
No, they need to be smart about this. Their team won't be the only ones made to suffer if they blow their cover here. Listening to their instructor's orders, Minako gives a terse nod before following after Naoki.

Which one of them happily provided on the way. as it happened. A rowdy pair of daemons began laughing at one human in a cage that looked especially afraid; it might be their turn next.
Valvatorez motioned for everyone to halt, and pressed himself against one of the stone walls at the corner of a juncture to get a better look. They didn't look like much... normal grunts, not the elites Ekkehardt talked about. Even if Valvatorez wasn't hellbent on eliminating every last daemon in these tunnels, they'd have to go. Last thing they needed was to be bounced by these two in the middle of a tougher battle. His eyes turned to his pupils.
"Two targets. Don't know we're here. I'll create a diversion to draw their attention, kill them while they're distracted. Pair up, two on one, and keep it as quiet as you can. Remember their hides are weak at the base of their wings. Strike there if you favor precision, and if not, use overwhelming force. Ready to go?"
Once he was sure, he'd nod.
"Three. Two. One. Mark."
And with that, Valvatorez dematerialized into a swarm of bats and flew down the hallway, blowing past the now startled daemons in the hallway. Lacerations quickly made themselves apparent on their foes as the vampire formed back together beyond them; apparently, Valvatorez could very easily attack in that form as well. His weapon drawn and facing the daemons, he looked at them squarely.
"Pathetic. Getting hurt by something as lowly as some bats."
The daemons quickly turned their backs on the rest of the students to face their attacker, blissfully unaware that Valvatorez's smirk was not due to overconfidence, but because he knew what was coming.

Ren tore the mask from his face as the impish creature appeared beside him, unleashing a blast of ice at the Daemon jailers to open the attack.
no subject
Akechi followed suit in removing his mask, the imposing figure appearing behind him and launching strong bolts of raw magical energy from his bow at their targets.
no subject
That is, he cocks back a fist and punches one of the daemons as hard as he possibly can, square in the space between their wings.
no subject
"Oberon!"
Pulling the trigger, the winged fae bursts forth, sending a shock-wave of electric energy at the daemonic jailers.

Both daemons slumped forward dead practically synchronized, and were it not for the environment surrounding them, it would've drawn more of a proud smile from the vampire. But things as they were... not so, at the moment. The person the daemons were threatening gasped and backed up further into their cell. Valvatorez motioned for him to remain quiet, and then beckoned his students over.
"Well done. But there's more to be done. I believe the elites that Ekkehardt warned of are near. Come, and be ready."
The daemon turned on his heel and started marching down the hallway, pausing only at corners to peer around them carefully. As they drew deeper into the prison, they came across a much larger chamber, which looked like a hub for the higher ranking jailers. And sure enough, within the chamber were three much stronger looking daemons, whose scales were jet black which slowly gradiented into a dark purple over their chests and stomach.
One of them made a guttural growl upon their approach. Seemed like the element of surprise wouldn't be there this time.
"Come on out... we can smell you. You reek of... defiance."
Val exchanged a glance with his students, nodding with them to be ready for combat.... and they didn't have long before the daemons decided to push the issue, launching two fireballs their way to force them out of cover and into the open... and preferably scattering their formation in the process.
The team will have a brief moment to regroup or counterattack, but it won't be long before the trio of daemons begin their attack in earnest...

it's fine probably. ]
There are living prisoners collected in cages deeper inside. They're guarded by daemons who are more equipped to work together, so stay aware of your surroundings. You should encounter them soon.
Follow Professor Valvatorez when he issues orders. Don't go off on your own - you don't want to get lost here, or surrounded.
Any questions?

Other than that, I don't have more information for you at this time.

[It was only a matter of time before Keith ditched the group to look around the dungeons by himself -- Valvatorez and the advice coming through on the earpiece be damned. He's never been particularly good at obeying instructions and he's pretty sure he can take care of himself. Always has.
They're going to cover more ground if they split up anyway, and the more information they gather on the dungeon interior, the faster they can go about freeing all the prisoners. And from the sound of it? They need help and quickly.]
B. aftermath
[Once the dust has settled and the prisoners have all been freed, Keith can be found leaning against the wall rather than joining in on any festivities for a successful mission. He's muttering to himself under his breath.]
Should do something for the dead.
A
Time to hit up that communicator to inquire with one particular member of his squad just what the hell is going on. ]
Keith. Why are you splitting?
no subject
Scouting. Can you stop distracting me?
no subject
I'm your backup, I need to keep an eye on you. Proceed.
[ He'd rather tell Keith to get his ass back to the rest of them, but he already knows that it's a hopeless endeavor. ]
no subject
Don't get in my way.
[Most of it.]
[He darts ahead past a narrow hall, where he reaches a bifurcation. His options are left, right or straight ahead. Teeth grit, he peers down each path.]
You actually got anything helpful here?
no subject
[ His video feed doesn't actually get much further ahead than what Keith's head camera is giving, but the item analyticals plus scrying efforts in the command center have more use than mere sight. ]
Take the middle. You'll have filled cells on both sides.
no subject
What's in the other paths?
no subject
[ Maybe some kind of... dungeon break room??? ]
No idea what's up with right, scanner's not giving clear results.
no subject
[Aaaaand muc to James' possible dismay, Keith starts moving. But it's not straight ahead as advised, it's straight towards the path on the right. Because clearly if this way is potentially doing something to actively block the scanners there's something worth looking at at the end of it. Keith logic. Solid logic.]
no subject
[ James hisses, half annoyed, half panicked. A superior is watching all of this! If James doesn't have his team under control, how's that going to look? Also this is dangerous. ]
