Who: Kano & OTA
What: magic practice, pettiness, finals
Where: Lumière, greenhouse, library
When: mid-month, before finals
Warnings: self-harm for prompt i., none expected for the rest
Notes: details of Kano's new Fey Contract can be found on his app
i. Lumière dormitory rooftop
[ Fey magic is a really... terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea. But Kano is determined to make it work, this new Contract that he'd forged a couple of days ago, but it's just so different from his usual illusion magic that he'd worked ten whole years to get to the point where he is now, illusions seamless and effortless compared to him staring at his arm right now wondering what he's doing wrong?
Because his arm is bleeding, a bloody knife on his lap while he pokes at the wound with his other hand and it just comes back bloody, him wincing because it hurts and why isn't the magic working? There's nothing intuitive about this at all, and he has no idea how he's supposed to make it work, with the magic supposed to be healing and dulling pain but it's just doing the opposite for him, the pain making it hard to keep a smile on his face, and making him feel like crying a little.
With a sigh, he waves hand over the bleeding cut instead of touching it, and it disappears— simply masked underneath an illusion, but it's still there while he tries to figure out how to do this, preferably before he bleeds out.
It won't come to it, though. He has three years worth of band-aids stocked up, and he knew they would be useful someday. ]
ii. campus, on the way to the greenhouse or inside
[ But you know what always makes up for terrible days? Even more terrible ideas to get your mind off previous ones. This one isn't that bad, though, because it's something that'll have positive long-term consequences. Probably.
Anyways, it's Kano with long sleeves and pants and winter gloves and the hood of his jacket pulled over his head and eyes and also a bandanna over the rest of his face so he can have as little skin showing as possible. It isn't all because of botched healing practice, though, it's because he's lugging around a three gallon plastic jug in his arms— you know, one of those large plastic containers twice the size of your head that you can buy cheese balls in, but instead of cheese balls, it's bees.
It's a jar full of bees.
He had to ship them to a PO in town and then lug them all the way back to campus; this insect purchasing restriction is really an awful pain. ]
iii. library
[ But also, anyways, it's almost finals and while Kano did surprisingly okay on his midterms, he's got to do slightly more okay on his finals too, because exam scored are literally all that's carrying his grades without the homework to pad it.
So the library it is... Books, his arch nemesis... Him, sitting at one of the open study areas with a stack of brand new text books in front of him that barely look touched, a mug of something on the table that's a dark dark red to the point that it's almost black and also has four tea bags sitting inside it that's steeped so long the tea is no longer steaming, and also hands clamped over his ears like he's trying to block out ambient noise, or massage away a headache, or give himself a headache so he can go hang out in the infirmary for the next two weeks and not do finals.
Why does Daybreak have to be a school??? Schools suck. ]

Sure. You mean with releasing them? [He looks down at himself, stretching his arms. Should he cover himself too?]
no subject
Hm, yep~ Something like that! There's a lot of bees and only one me, so I figured I could use any help I can get~
[ Yuya should probably cover himself, but Kano doesn't give him the opportunity for him to go back to the dorms and find gloves and a hat or anything, they're going straight to the greenhouse and maybe Yuya can pick up a fallen leaf or something to ward away incoming bees. ]
no subject
[Is there another component to his bee release he doesn't know about?]
no subject
[ That's all he says, which is pretty much nothing, all the way until they're inside the greenhouse and it's warm and a little humid and he's suffering a little underneath all this clothes, and he brings Yuya somewhere near the center of the greenhouse where somebody's hauled something that looks like a dresser into the center of the room.
It's a beehive.
Supposedly. ]
Okay, so, as soon as I finish dumping the bees, you slam the door shut and run. Any questions?
no subject
He opens the door to peek inside first.] Do I follow your lead or just get to the edge of the greenhouse?
no subject
Get to the door and escape when you can! Don't wait for me! ...But also, maybe stick around to see that I get out alive too~
no subject
[They'd be in much more trouble if it was wasps.] But I'll pull you out if I have to. I'm ready whenever you are!
no subject
Being shipped oversees and brought to a new home, anybody would be scared, right? But alright, alright, let's do this~
[ He turns the jar upside down and places one hand on the edge of the lid, ready to pry it open, and waits for Yuya to be in position too. ]
On the count of three!
no subject
All right! [And he'll just start it off.] One...
no subject
Two... Three!!
[ And he tears off the lid—- and, as expected, some of the bees pour out of the jar but most of them don't give a crap about gravity and a few remain hanging out inside the jar with no indication they want to leave any time soon.
He jostles the jar a little, fearless with how protected he is. Hey, come on. ]
no subject
... Maybe they're not very scared after all. [He scratches the back of his neck.] Maybe they'll find their way if you put the jar down?
no subject
Will they be okay... Hey, let's see if there's any flowers around, if there's any that've fallen on the ground, they should be okay still, right?
[ Do fallen flowers have any nectar in them? Probably not. Does Kano know anything about beekeeping? Absolutely not. ]
no subject
Let's move some pots closer so they can smell them.
[What a little rearrangement of the greenhouse? Yuya glances around before he spots some bright yellow flowers and goes to carry the it over.] Are you going to harvest their honey?
no subject
Oh, good idea, if we surround them with flowers and stuff, nobody's going to bother them and it'll keep them safe~
[ If Kano has his way, the entire greenhouse is going to be rearranged, everything eventually surrounding the beehive, drawn to it like it's a strong magnet. ]
As for the honey... I don't really care? Do you want it? For helping me today~

no subject
[ He goes around to find some of the smaller pots, or ones in long troughs that he can carefully pick up and use the toe of his boot to open the bottom-most drawer of the hive and set the flowers directly in there. No need for his bees to go through the whole song and dance of finding the flowers, they can just go downstairs for a snack; convenience at its finest. ]
As for the honey, I don't need much, so please set aside a jar for me and the rest you can do as you please with it~
no subject
But I'll help you harvest it when there's enough, so just let me know! [He pumps his fist, releasing the flower to spring backwards and possibly knock some bees around. Sorry.]
no subject
Alright, alright, careful! Don't want to make them too mad, before we can get out of here! Maybe this should be our cue to leave~
no subject
Ah--sorry, sorry! [Yuya takes the suggestion to leave, pushing himself to his feet before offering Kano a hand up.] I don't want to mess up your project--it's really cool you're doing this, actually.
no subject
Kano pushes himself off his knees to stand, but takes Yuya's hand anyways— doesn't let go of it after, either, once he's straightened up. ]
Hehe~ I'm excited for the project too~ I hope it'll be a lot of fun for everybody, in the end~
[ It's a no-good project, Yuya, he should know that Kano doesn't do something as nice as rehoming bees just for the heck of it. He's not an animal lover, nor an environmentalist, certainly not a bee fucker hoping to indoctrinate other students with unusual fetishes. ]
no subject
He just wants to believe Kano is having nice hobbies and doing things that aren't dreading the end of the world. Everyone deserves to live like they're human, here.] Uh--yeah! it's nice, letting everyone have fun with something. Those things are really important.
no subject
Mm, yep~ I think so too! [ If not fun, it'll be funny, so really there's no way his plans can go wrong. ]
So, what were you up to when I ran into you? Anything fun I can join in on? Otherwise, I'll pass~
no subject
Oh--yeah. [He puts his other hand over his stomach.] I was just going to get food because I haven't eaten.
[It's probably the afternoon, but he spent most of his day so far with his face pressed into his pillow trying to ignore the pounding in his head. At least, right now, he's pretty sure his familiars aren't near each other.]
no subject
Hm~ Been a while since I thought about food, too. Do you usually eat at the cafeteria? Out in town? Or do you keep snacks in your room?
no subject
[Yuya's easy to distract normally, let alone when his attention is torn in so many directions. So far the hands are forgotten.] I still owe Toki a trip to Soleil, actually, since the mission succeeded... I hope he doesn't think I forgot.
[They're roommates. Toki has probably noticed Yuya not feeling well since that mission.]
