Imagine Wist's surprise when April rolled around and their plan for a great prank was foiled on account of all those students just...leaving??? Truly, they have become the April fool... It's what they wanted, of course -- for the pitiful humans to find freedom -- and sure there are some stragglers around, but...in the end, they decide to take the win and enjoy a short break of their own. Good thing, too, or they might have pulled out all their hair in frustration when Spring Break comes to an end and the swarm of students and faculty willingly return to their prison.

While settling back into the academy and resigning themselves to a routine, the people of Daybreak will be soothed by a gentle tune rising up from the forest. It isn't a song they've heard before, and yet, somehow...it's nostalgic, isn't it? The soft notes of the pan flute stir up something in their hearts, tugging at old memories and drawing forth a feeling of dissatisfaction and longing out from under them. Let the song lull them into taking a moment to withdraw from the hustle and bustle -- hey, turns out they sort of need it. Maybe they're coming down with a cold, or just some quick little bug...

The odd message from an iris account that doesn't exist isn't up for long before the spell kicks into the next phase. However they manifest and from when differs from person to person, but those affected will all have the bizarre experience of watching some ghost of themselves from their past be born from their soul's memory. Don't think there are those that can escape this fate just by returning at a later time, either -- Wist can keep up this panpipe nonsense all day, every day if they have to. If that what it takes to get their point across...

Good luck trying to comprehend whatever point that may be, because now Daybreak is the new home to a bunch of familiar-looking rugrats and has to contend with whatever complications they may bring along with them.

[Okay, this is A Lot and she officially has no idea how to deal with it.]

I- no? Sorry. [It's unclear whether she's saying no to the idea that she's pretty, or no to the question of whether she lives here. Possibly both, she isn't sure either.]

[She seems less frightened by the giant supernatural lion-cow-lizard than she does by the attempt of talking to another human, honestly.]

[ This is fair. Current model Rex is a lot to deal with in terms of misery, just turn all of that into joy and it's still a lot. ]

I forgive you. [ He doesn't know what for but if she's sorry then he accepts it. It's fine. Don't worry about it. ] Anyway! No! My mom dropped me off because Eggheart takes care of me sometimes when she's doing something really dangerous, last time she brought me back a daemon king's crown but it didn't fit, anyway, this is Pufók and I'm Rex.

[ He slaps the side of the weird chimaera, which makes a pleasant 'bwomp' like a drum. He sure lives up to the name, which means 'fatso' basically. ]

I found him here but he's mine now because I love him and he loves me.

[...there's a lot to unpack there, but let's start with:]

That's a nice name. [Complimenting this strange cow thing is very important, okay. She doesn't want him to feel slighted, he's a good weird mighty steed creature.]

[At Rex's explanation, she smiles a little sadly.]

That's... good. I'm happy for you. [It'd be nice if it worked that way for humans, but... no, can't get mopey about it, not in front of people.]

[ He is well aware it can also mean king, but everybody likes dogs. As he says it, he even makes the shadow puppet hands for a dog. He stops just short of actually barking, but he's doing it in spirit, trust me.

Rex's assessment of his new friend is complete- she's shy and sweet. Thus- He loves her! ]

You wanna touch his mane? [ Rex assumes the answer is yes and drops off of Indrik gracefully to show her how. ] Like this!

[ He just jams his whole head right into the mane, nuzzling in and coming out with a 'pwah!' like he's just come out from a deep dive in the sea. Indrik, for his part, puffs and preens joyfully. He loves the attention. ]

[Well, he's not wrong... Her assessment of him is mostly 'what' with a slightly dazed afterthought of 'well, he seems nice'.]

[Jasmine's eyes widen at the offer. Her first instinct is to hesitate, to wonder if it's really okay, but... As shy and polite as she is, she's still a kid, and that looks so fluffy.]

Yes, please.

[She walks carefully up to Indrik, and tentatively brushes her hand against his mane. If he doesn't seem to be displeased by this, she'll pet him a little more firmly, which resulted in a quietly surprised little 'oh!' as her hand pretty much disappears into the fur mass up to the elbow.]

[She's trying to keep calm, but she can't stop herself from smiling. It's so soft, this is the best thing.]

[ Indrik is the exact opposite of displeased. The more he is praised, which is what he takes being petted as, the more he preens. Head held proudly high and puffing up with satisfaction, leaning into her hand. Yes, children... Yes. Worship the golden calf!

Rex laughs cheerfully when Jasmine indulges and at last, cracks a smile. That's better, right? Everyone should be happy and if they're not, it's Rex time. ]

He's so nice, right? And try this! [ He goes to the end of Rex's long tail, where a smaller tuft of fluff sticks out. He brings the flexible tail all the way around and rubs the lovely silky tuft on Jasmine's face. Probably should have asked first but hey,, who could object!

Indrik goes go 'merp!' at that but otherwise doesn't object. ]

Eep-!

[Jasmine doesn't object, exactly, so much as make a very surprised little squeaking noise. It is kind of nice, but she's mostly focused on trying to make sure she doesn't accidentally get any fur in her mouth. It feels like it would be rude to get slime on poor Indrik.]

[She starts to pull away, then freezes awkwardly because what if that's rude, he's trying to be nice to her... he may need to knock her out of that loop, she could be in it a while.]

[ Both Indrik and Rexxy watch her enter her feedback loop for a few seconds, before looking at each other and shrugging in perfect unison.

Being a very direct sort, he leaps right to the heart of the issue. ]

If you like it you can say and if don't you can say. It's okay, I love you so I won't mind.

[ And yes. He will just say it like that. ]

Oh no, it's just that- [Wait, he what.] You-

[Jasmine.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.]

...how?

[That's probably kind of a worrying reaction to someone saying they love you, but she's a little dazed at the moment.]

You made me happy.

[ Rexxy says that as if it absolutely explains loving someone, but he also has a sudden spike of sadness at her reaction.

There is clearly only one thing to do, which is go in for a gentle, caring hug. Big ol' beefy arms for a kid his age, but ever so delicate. Like her emotional state is physical and she's a wee adorable egg. ]

S'okay.

[Oh no, he's so nice... slowly, looking like she's not sure whether this is a trap, Jasmine hugs him back.]

I'm glad.

[It doesn't seem real. Maybe this is a dream- that would explain a lot. She tilts her head a little, not wanting him to see her tearing up.]

[ He decides not to end it, because quite clearly this girl needs hugs so it's over when she's satisfied. He does, however, add a quick nuzzle. Indrik even joins in, plopping his head on top of Rexxy's so his mane engulfs them both.

After a moment and with utmost confidence he adds- ]

We should get married when we're older.

[ Yes he is for real. ]

[She freezes, looking deeply uncomfortable.]

I don't think that's- We're much too young to even think about-

[PLEASE DON'T DO THIS TO THE TINY LESBIAN, REX, SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW SHE'S GAY YET.]

[ Lil' Rex is quite used to this sort of reaction, but still proposes to everyone he likes. Because he does what he wants and no one can stop him and one day he will be the centre of the world's largest network of loved people. ]

S'okay, you don't need to say yes today. [ Because yes is what will happen, no one can deny his love. Nothing sexual about it. ] But I just thought, that way, whenever you think 'how can I be loved' you'll know I do anyway.

[ He and Indrik nod in perfect unison. He makes an 'mmhmm' and Indrik makes a 'merp'. ]

I'm not sure that's what marriage proposals are for... [Jasmine is just. It has been a day. She's not really sure what she's feeling anymore, she's very tired.]

But... thank you.
