When You Made Wishes: start! (player plot)
Imagine Wist's surprise when April rolled around and their plan for a great prank was foiled on account of all those students just...leaving??? Truly, they have become the April fool... It's what they wanted, of course -- for the pitiful humans to find freedom -- and sure there are some stragglers around, but...in the end, they decide to take the win and enjoy a short break of their own. Good thing, too, or they might have pulled out all their hair in frustration when Spring Break comes to an end and the swarm of students and faculty willingly return to their prison.
While settling back into the academy and resigning themselves to a routine, the people of Daybreak will be soothed by a gentle tune rising up from the forest. It isn't a song they've heard before, and yet, somehow...it's nostalgic, isn't it? The soft notes of the pan flute stir up something in their hearts, tugging at old memories and drawing forth a feeling of dissatisfaction and longing out from under them. Let the song lull them into taking a moment to withdraw from the hustle and bustle -- hey, turns out they sort of need it. Maybe they're coming down with a cold, or just some quick little bug...

Why did you come back? You don't have to live like this.
Weren't things better back then? Try to remember what it used to be like.

The odd message from an iris account that doesn't exist isn't up for long before the spell kicks into the next phase. However they manifest and from when differs from person to person, but those affected will all have the bizarre experience of watching some ghost of themselves from their past be born from their soul's memory. Don't think there are those that can escape this fate just by returning at a later time, either -- Wist can keep up this panpipe nonsense all day, every day if they have to. If that what it takes to get their point across...
Good luck trying to comprehend whatever point that may be, because now Daybreak is the new home to a bunch of familiar-looking rugrats and has to contend with whatever complications they may bring along with them.

Still, he smiles, shoulders easing.] Can you tell me your name?
no subject
He ducks his head and frowns into his shoulder, worrying at his bottom lip. Maybe if he tells Yuya his name, he'll be more willing to let him outside. ]
...It's Shuuya. [ he mumbles, voice low in hopes that Yuya doesn't catch that and just says never mind. ]
no subject
Haha, our names sound kind of similar, don't--[But it is the second thought.] They?
[Haha. What the fuck.
Yuya, to his credit, doesn't loose that smile while his brain proceeds to work itself into knots trying to figure this out. That would explain why there was something so familiar with his face, just aged down. But he didn't seem to recognize Yuya, so Yuya can't ask for confirmation because what if that freaks him out, someone knowing his last name?? No, he's just going to have to keep playing along and look for the clues himself.
He starts as he shakes himself from his thoughts, rubbing the back of his neck.] Okay, Shuuya. You know why it's a bad idea to be sprinting around when you're really hurt, right? You'll make it worse, and it'll take longer to heal.
no subject
No matter how similar he looks to the grown up Kano, the boy here seems so at ends to him, narrowed eyes and a scowl on his face that worsens when Yuya talks to him like the little kid that he is. Talking to him like he's dumb, after he did a dumb thing. Yeah, yeah, he's stupid, he looks it and acts like it and no wonder this stranger can pick up on it and act accordingly. ]
I know. [ he mumbles, voice small and quiet ] I'll go find somewhere out of the way to sit.
no subject
Yuya rests his arms on his legs. He knows he means somewhere not here, but given his panic...]
Okay. But if I'm going to convince them it's okay for you to leave, there's going to have to be trust both ways. Can we trust you not to run off on your own? I can come with you, or I can find someone else.
no subject
Despite his earlier panic, getting to talk and engage in a conversation has calmed Shuuya down somewhat. He still wants to get away from this situation as soon as possible, but he can also be cooperative... or appear to be.
He gives Yuya this smile, and nods. Think about who you're dealing with, Yuya, and ask yourself if you trust him. ]
no subject
Okay. Wait here, I'll be right back. [Yuya straightens up and steps aside. Not at all out of view, but to the side to talk to one of the nurses.
The nurse is eyeing Kano critically from over Yuya's shoulder, while he tries to convince her to release Kano on the promise that Yuya will look after him, and make sure he rests.]
no subject
Good bye. ]
no subject
[Yuya doesn't even finish listening before he snaps around and dashes for the door to follow him right out.]
no subject
One can hope. ]
no subject
K--Shuuya! [There's clear panic etched on his face as he looks around, spinning on his heels to check up and... down.]
Oh. [His shoulders slump immediately.] You're right there.
no subject
Is this okay? is the silent question that floats around, is him sitting here okay, where it's by the infirmary but not inside of it, without four walls all around making him feel like he's trapped, without so many people and so much noise and movement that he can barely stand it. It's not like he can wander off too far, right? ]
no subject
No one else seems to be coming out of the infirmary, so for now Yuya just moves to put his back to the wall beside Kano and slides down to sit.]
Okay... let's start from the beginning. [Now that he's not (probably) dying.] Do you know where you are right now?
no subject
If it's not a question directly about him and his well-being, he's a little less defense as a whole, shaking his head slowly because he knows heck all where he is and there's nothing he can gain from it by lying. ]
no subject
no subject
But then he asks whether Shuuya remembers what happened when he found himself here and he's thrown back into the memory, of coming home and finding his mother on the ground and that man with the kitchen knife and there was so much blood and he couldn't do anything and
ughhhhh
He buries his face in his arms and nods. ]
no subject
no subject
No, he doesn't want to talk about it. Because having lived through it once was painful enough; why would he want to live through it a second time, especially when he doubts he'll be able to get the entire story out without breaking down and crying.
His mother... His mother is gone, she's dead, and without her, he doesn't know what to do. Having revolved his entire life around her, what is he supposed to do now? Cry. He hates himself for being so weak, that all he can do is cry, but once he starts he can't stop, sniffles turning into choked sobs, and then he starts to wail into his arms until his voice cracks. ]
no subject
He stays silent, to give Kano the space to weep.]
no subject
Stupid, why is he crying in front of a stranger, making him worry and he definitely would feel awkward about a kid crying in front of him.
Furiously scrubbing his sleeve over his face, Shuuya stands back up and shakes his head. He's not going to cry. Crying makes things worse; he won't do it in front of other people. Come on, Shuuya. Smile, smile... ]
'm okay now, so... You don't have to stay.
no subject
Yuya lowers his hand, letting it rest on the ground between them. His heart still hurts for Kano to be like this, terrified and hurt and still desperately trying to seem fine. He'll isolate himself in that kind of nervousness, won't he?
He leans over a little, and pulls up a soft smile as his expression eases.] And you don't have to say you're okay when you're not. Nobody would be right after something like that.
no subject
He has to be okay, because there is no other choice but to get back up and keep moving. ]
...I'm okay.
[ He insists again, but his voice is quiet, the clear tell of a lie that Kano had since learned to mask by casting an illusion over his own voice to make it bright and cheerful and nothing like the quiet hesitance he had as a child. ]
no subject
I know I don't need to stay with you, but I'm happy to if you want me to. If you promise to be careful about your injury, I can take you somewhere else.
no subject
But right now, Shuuya looks doubtful over how Yuya can say such a thing with such certainty, and it just sounds like a lie to his ears, something adults say to soothe things over and move the conversation along. And he almost buys into it, wanting to know where this somewhere else is, that Yuya is thinking of taking him.
But... it's alright, isn't it? He can always turn around and leave if he doesn't like where they're going or what they're doing, so he nods and tries to put a smile on his face and he takes a limping step forward, because his ankle's been set and wrapped but it's still sprained and he should probably not be walking around much on it. ]
no subject
He pulls away from the wall, putting space as he crouches by Kano and holds his hands back behind him.] Here, I can carry you on my back so you don't hurt your leg. Uh... do you mind if we take a detour to my room, first? I need to change shirts.
[Given the current one is blatantly stained with blood, and he probably shouldn't be walking around with it either. Really, Kano needs a change of clothes himself but he doesn't know where to get something that'll fit him.]
