When You Made Wishes: start! (player plot)

Imagine Wist's surprise when April rolled around and their plan for a great prank was foiled on account of all those students just...leaving??? Truly, they have become the April fool... It's what they wanted, of course -- for the pitiful humans to find freedom -- and sure there are some stragglers around, but...in the end, they decide to take the win and enjoy a short break of their own. Good thing, too, or they might have pulled out all their hair in frustration when Spring Break comes to an end and the swarm of students and faculty willingly return to their prison.

While settling back into the academy and resigning themselves to a routine, the people of Daybreak will be soothed by a gentle tune rising up from the forest. It isn't a song they've heard before, and yet, somehow...it's nostalgic, isn't it? The soft notes of the pan flute stir up something in their hearts, tugging at old memories and drawing forth a feeling of dissatisfaction and longing out from under them. Let the song lull them into taking a moment to withdraw from the hustle and bustle -- hey, turns out they sort of need it. Maybe they're coming down with a cold, or just some quick little bug...

Why did you come back? You don't have to live like this.

Weren't things better back then? Try to remember what it used to be like.

The odd message from an iris account that doesn't exist isn't up for long before the spell kicks into the next phase. However they manifest and from when differs from person to person, but those affected will all have the bizarre experience of watching some ghost of themselves from their past be born from their soul's memory. Don't think there are those that can escape this fate just by returning at a later time, either -- Wist can keep up this panpipe nonsense all day, every day if they have to. If that what it takes to get their point across...

Good luck trying to comprehend whatever point that may be, because now Daybreak is the new home to a bunch of familiar-looking rugrats and has to contend with whatever complications they may bring along with them.

Gracias.

[He does nothing more than he said, quietly taking a seat down beside the boy, plenty of space between but still close enough.

He smiles a little when the boy falls for the bait. Kids rarely do know to mind their own at this age.]

I hurt it a long time ago. It's not broken anymore, but part of the bone moves funny sometimes and the rest of my leg can't support me as well when I walk. I have to take a break now and then when it starts hurting.

[Your turn, kiddo.]

[He's young and foolish, okay. How's he supposed to hold back his curiosity?

He frowns a bit at the explanation, picking at the seam of his shorts.]

My back is all...messed up right now, so standing up is really hard and hurts a lot. I've been getting better, though!

[And his little plan works like a charm. He gives the boy a sympathetic look.]

Sounds hard. But I'm glad to hear it's getting better. Is it easier if you can lean on something or does it only hurt when you stand?
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-17 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hook, line, and sinker.]

They usually put me in a wheelchair... I'm not supposed to walk. That'll make it worse.
unpocoloco: (I don't think so)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-18 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, thinking.]

I could try to carry you to the infirmary. I'm sure they have some kind of spare there. Would you be able to piggyback? Or would that hurt too much?
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-18 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay.

[He likes this man, he's decided. He's really nice.

He looks down at his lap, hands scrunching in his shorts.]

A piggyback should be fine...

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-19 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. Let's do that then. You just let me know if does start hurting.

My name's Héctor by the way.

[He slips off the chair, kneeling low and hunching so the boy can climb on.]

Wrap your arms around my neck. Don't worry about it being tight.

[It's not like he can choke and die.]
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-19 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay.

[He nods at that, before scrambling onto Héctor's back. He hisses a bit at the pain of jostling about, but he manages to get up and get his arms around his neck.]

I'm Noctis.
unpocoloco: (12)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-21 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[His smile tightens, sympathetic over that little hiss, but he doesn't move. He just waits, bent out of shape, until it seems like the kid's hanging on securely. He straightens out just a bit, but keeps his back angled so Noctis can better hang on-- and he can still use that cane. Sorry, Noc, this may be a slow walk.]

Mucho Gusto, Noctis. You alright there? Hang on now.

[He starts on toward the infirmary.]

So, you one of the new kids showing up around here?
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-22 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Noctis doesn't mind slow. It's easier, this way.

His grip tightens reflexively when Héctor moves, but after a moment he relaxes.]

I guess so? I don't really know where here is...
unpocoloco: (Siete)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-23 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
That would be a yes then.

[Maybe if he spots the boy's older self he can direct them together.]

There's been a lot of kids showing up like you. We think some magic has gone a little crazy. But there are people working on it and we should be able to get you home soon.

As for here, we call this Daybreak Academy. It's a school.

[His older self is probably in Aube, napping off the stress.]

Is it a school for magic?

[That seems like the most important question.]
unpocoloco: (Salud)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-24 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[He grins a little. It can be heard in his voice.]

That's right. All kinds of magic taught at this school. As well as some normal things.
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[He tilts his head, curious.]

What do you mean by "normal" things? Things like what?
unpocoloco: (Siete)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-25 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well, you know. The things they teach in schools that aren't magic. Math and language and history and music. Things like that.
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-25 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The boring stuff. [He scoffs.] I can't wait until I start learning magic.
unpocoloco: (Well It's True)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-04-27 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's not the boring stuff! [Hear how offended!] Music? History? Poetry and story and the way people speak to each other? Those are the best things!
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-04-27 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but they're not as fun as magic! [Huff puff.] Magic is how you protect yourself, and that's really important.
unpocoloco: (Happy Sigh)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-05-04 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, that is how you protect yourself, but... protecting yourself isn't what makes life good. And for me, that was always history, writing, and music. And you know, cool things, family, stuff like that.
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-05-08 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If you can't protect your family, what good is history and music?
unpocoloco: (Muted)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-05-12 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
[His smiles slips a moment but he pushes it back in place.]

You use history to learn from the past, to teach and figure out better ways to protect yourself. History is important that way too.

[He has no defense for music. He might have had one, once, a long time ago.]
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-05-13 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sorry for trampling all over your issues.]

I guess...That sounds like what my dad says, all the time. About the Kings of Yore.
unpocoloco: (12)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-05-19 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, sounds like a smart man.

[Hopefully a decent man and not someone he's complementing undeserved.]

Personally, I learned a lot about who I am from the past, and who I want to be. Our ancestors, and even those not at all related to us, they have a lot to teach, so long as we're willing to look and listen.
sleepybitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepybitch 2019-05-19 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is a king.

Noctis goes quiet, contemplating this.]

Dad says...that the Kings of Yore lend their power to the present king and help guide him on his way. That they gave their power to protect the kingdom and that you can still feel their presence now. So is it something like that...?
unpocoloco: (Sad smile)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-05-24 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He bobs his head a little, side to side.]

Yeah, a bit. I'd say. With magic stuff it's probably more literal with the passing of power, but it's also true in the sense of passing knowledge and passing on... well, love. The kind that one feels for humanity and one's own descendants. A hope for the future, even when that future has nothing to do with you. And of course, the responsibility to make that better future happen.

For example... once, a long time ago, someone thought up a hug for the very first time. This may seem silly, but think of all the times your parents hugged you or that you may have hugged your friends. This gesture had to have been past down for generations and generations just to reach you. That's thousands of years of history, all piled up. And why? To help people feel better, to show we care, to ask a question that's too hard to speak... it's an important thing to humans now. And it's little things like that that get passed on, something small to something big.

For me, my big thing, learning some of the old language of my home and what their symbols meant. I learned the kind of world my ancestors wanted, and I knew the kind of messages I wanted to pass on some day. History is just memory you haven't lived yourself. And memories are important in making us who we are.
