Every year, as the school year comes to a close, Daybreak Academy holds its Prom, an immense gala for the students to dress in their finest clothing, dance, mingle, and make merry. This year’s prom theme, selected by the outgoing student council, is “The Unyielding Spirit of Man”. Held in Soleil’s performance center, the enormous stage has been pulled out to make a huge dance floor, with the seating rearranged around the floor on all sides for onlookers to mingle, eat, and enjoy the festivities.

In keeping with the theme, the hall is decorated with tributes to mankind’s ingenuity, with various exhibits tastefully marked with museum-like plaques surrounding it. Exhibits celebrating all manner of inventions from fire, to the written word, to spellcraft, runecraft, and flight, all are commemorated here.

Of course, no prom, or indeed any Daybreak event would be complete without food. While each exhibit serves as an educational tribute to mankind’s accomplishments, each station is also a themed food dish. The tribute to fire, for example, hosts a variety of roasts and barbecued meat of the finest cuts, while the agriculture exhibit holds a bevy of fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads. Some of these pairings are a bit of a stretch (the tribute to flight, for example, holds sandwiches and peanuts, a reference, perhaps to airline food) but all are made with the finest of ingredients.


A - So about that airline food?
Mingling at the banquet table is a good way to be social without worrying about stepping on anyone’s toes. While proms and the herald may dull the appetite for some, it would be a waste to let all the food go untouched.

While there are Faculty and Grad students volunteering to keep these particular drinks spike-free, they cannot be watching it the whole time. However, if one plans to do this - do not get caught.

B - Dance! Boogie Wonderland!
As part of the theme, the variety of music has expanded greatly from the usual prom fare - long as it’s danceable, it’s being played, and sometimes the results are jarring going from a disco classic to a regal waltz, or a crooner love song to a bouncy k-pop chart topper that will get stuck in one’s head. Can you keep up with the mad pace? It’s enough to get even the most seasoned dancer hopping mad.

Or will it be viva la music revolution to get some sanity on the dance floor?

C - A Collection of Wallflowers
Maybe socializing isn’t your thing, or dancing isn’t the kind of activity you enjoy. There’s plenty of seating around the room for you to shuffle into a corner and spend the evening holed up with a plate of food. And for those more interested in poking and prodding at the exhibits, there’s a few little themed trinkets and prizes hidden away for the keen-eyed. Elegant wands that produce sparkles, bubbles and smoke, miniscule instruments, sparklers and colorful torches that never go out (and notably can’t set anything on fire) - all made to produce flashy effects, to spice up your experience on the dance floor - or someone’s experience, anyway.

D - Wine and Beer
As is typical of Daybreak, there’s an open bar with rich, well-aged ales and wines from all over Europe. And it is, of course, open to just about everyone. After all, this is France! For those who want to take a bit of an edge off the night, their worries about what is to come, or just generally be more sociable, there is plenty of libation to help you get there. Just be careful, nobody’s going to be counting your drinks but you.

Food? oh hell yeah, Jolyne's here for the free food. She honestly doesn't give a flying shit about any of the actual exhibits or whatever they've set up as long as the food is good. That's the point of this shit, right? To eat, drink, probably get drunk? Make shit awkward as all hell for your date or whatever? Exactly.

Which might be why she has a huge damn plate as she's fluttering around from table to table.

B

Music sure is whiplash and she's not too sure how to feel about it, not that she really danced all that much or was too keen on doing so. But she's listening intently for what styles are what and thinking that, well, the second anything remotely good comes on, she'll just casually show what Florida has told her.

She threatened Bowser that she was going to absolutely fucking twerk here and you best believe she's waiting for the best chance to do so in a fancy-ass dress.

It's not hard to find Jolyne while she's wearing one hell of an appropriate dress for her normal wear and oddly enough in heels. Her hair is actually down for once with part of it pinned back with similarly colored butterfly pins and her makeup actually... toned down and neutral for once. Shit's weird.

Doesn't mean she won't throw down in half a second if anyone tries to pull anything, especially not with how she's been acting recently.

[ ruby, all dressed up in her last minute prom dress, can be seen hanging out at the banquet table. and for the most part... she's just eating. stuffing her face with cookies, actually. she's scarfing them down and on her third round of (unspiked) punch. she's kind of shy when it comes to mingling, though she may or may not be blocking the way at to the desserts... ]

Mmph! [ she swallows her mouthful of cookies. ] Sorry, here! After you!

[ yes, there are still cookies left. but did she seriously just eat half of the chocolate chip ones...? ]

b. shut up and dance
[ looks like the dance floor's playing a bouncy kpop topper, and ruby is all over it. her eyes widen, and she looks like she's eager to go on the dance floor.

but every time she steps forward, she pulls herself back and puts her arms behind her back. she looks a little sad when she does so, too. maybe all she needs is a little push to get her grooving with everyone else. ]

c. flashes of light
[ at the corner of your eye, you see a bunch of...colorful lights go off somewhere in the corner. upon closer inspection, it's ruby, playing with just about every single type of trinket available.

it's a bright, sparkly, neon mess back here. at one point, she seems to be constructing some kind of combination of the wands and sparklers and torches to create some kind of chaotic mess.

[ Aiko's sort of milling around, taking a break from food (somehow) and dancing. She can never stay quiet and in one place for long, and a burst of light catches her attention. Immediately, she goes to investigate, and there are two things here: One-- ]

[School dances are always the time Yuya ends up more dressed up in normal, decked in a black tuxedo and some hideous fashion choice of a tie. But this occasion is extra special, so he's made an effort to glamorize his look a little more. There's a white carnation in the pocket lapel of his jacket, and as much of his hair pulled back into a ponytail with a couple black clips pinning his bangs out of his eyes. And he has thin metal bangle bracelets on his wrists, shiny enough to catch the light when they peek out from under his sleeves. His shoes are shined.

... it's not fashionable, but it is accessorized.]

[Yuya has a date this time. A Real Date. But he doesn't spend the entirety of his night with said date because he has other friends to catch up with and also he would probably die from nerves. So there are times where he disconnects, letting Gongenzaka find his friends while he beelines for his every time he catches them sitting down, or separating from their own dance partners off the floor.

He waves emphatically to get their attention, wherever they are.] Hey!

[Buffet Style]

[Being at Daybreak means being spoiled for food 365 days of the year, but there's something particularly nice about all the little desserts and snacks laid out on the tables at dances. Maybe it's because they're prettier, or more likely to be sauced in alcohol. He piles up small plates every so often as he takes breaks off his feet.

But as the night goes on, he instead takes a moment to... load single servings of the smaller portions into tupperware containers. He's got like four he's trying to stuff with as much variety as possible. It looks weird, so he's saved it for closer to the end, but if he waits too long he knows they'll be out of all the good stuff.]

[Closed to Gongenzaka]

[Yuya has half a mind to run straight to the ballroom and make Gongenzaka find him there, but no. He can't do that to him, no matter now nervous he is.

He waffles over showing up too early or too late, and ends up waiting until the last second to rush down the stairs and to Gongenzaka's door. He hopes he hasn't already left.]

[ yuya's getting caught in the act while he loads food into his tupperware containers. there's an audible gasp that comes from behind him. it's an unfamiliar face, but ana is certainly alarmed. ]

...Oh my goodness.

[ she walks up to him and clasps her hands together. ] You, sir, are a genius.

[ Aiko, dressed in pink, is SUPER here for the food. Someone went to the trouble of making it all, so of course it should be enjoyed! For someone so small she has a pretty big appetite, and she's sampling everything. Everything. She definitely lingers by the sweets more often--cookies? Yes. Macarons? Hell yes.

If she spots someone, she gives them a bright smile. ]

Have you tried the macarons? They're soooo good!

[ Dancing? Especially to high-energy music? How can she resist, really. Aiko is having a ball--this is different than her high school prom. It's much better; she feels like she can really let go and go all out. She's very.... bouncy, and enthusiastic. And if she sees someone off to the side, looking like they're thinking about coming over-- ]

Hey! Need a partner? [ It's not always necessarily a partner dance, but... she doesn't really care. ]

[ A little later on, when the music's slowed down, Aiko stays off to the side. She doesn't really have anyone to dance with, but she doesn't mind. Seeing all the couples enjoying each other's company is really sweet, and she doesn't stop smiling. ]

I guess even in the face of danger, people can enjoy each other. It's really nice.

They're always good. [Kokoro smiles, taking a cannelé for herself.] I missed these, in all honesty. I've been away for the past two years, and they aren't as easy to find elsewhere. Have you...

[She trails off and blinks at Aiko's plate, coming to the conclusion that the new girl has probably tried everything in the entire room already.]

Shying away

No one should be remotely surprised that Kisara has come here:

Honestly, she's insanely predictable at this point, even if she's gone the route of not being hidden in the slightest with this dress she somehow managed to scope out at a decent price. Which is totally a good reason to hide in the corner with, right?

Music

At least the music isn't... terrible? Half of it she doesn't understand and half of it is mostly forgettable in her opinion. Nothing familiar in sound or tongue, but it's at least enough for her to quietly bob her head along to the beat to while at one of the tables off to the side.

She has rhythm, mostly, but getting her anywhere near dancing is going to be one hell of a challenge for anyone that thinks it's a good idea to try.

[You know who's also hiding somewhere despite not actually having come to prom alone? This guy. Dressed in this suit, Keith's feeling weird as all hell and looks like he's attempting to do his best impression of a chameleon. Blending into the walls like magic.

He honestly almost doesn't even recognize Kisara when he passes because her outfit is just not what he's used to seeing on her at all. He does a bit of a double take.]

[ my muses apparently have a food problem, because while ana's not blocking any of the tables, she sure has a giant plate stacked with basically everything available. is she going to finish it all? probably not. but look, if there's the opportunity for free food, she's not gonna pass it up. hopefully she doesn't spill any of it on her fancy dress.

she'll approach anyone who's also grabbing food, a pleasant smile on her face. ]

Excuse me, where did you happen to get that?

[ she points to one of the foods on your plate. though...it seems like she might have already grabbed it? it's probably slightly obscured underneath all the other food stacked on top. ]

[ why are the songs like this? not that ana exactly knows how to dance, but she's lingering nearby, hands on her hips with her eyebrow raised. she's certainly staring at the dj with some degree of scrutiny, and if anyone else happens to be doing the same, she'll turn to them and share her comments with them. ]

This certainly is an...interesting playlist.

[ it changes from disco to something that sounds like dubstep, and ana shakes her head. ]

Not that I'm a great dancer myself, but this is a little odd, don't you think?

[ maybe you're wallflowering and hoping to be left alone, or maybe you just don't seem very occupied at the moment. whatever the case will be, a wild New Student will approach you with two cups of punch -- one is presumably hers, and she holds the other one out towards you. ]

[Toki's not a wallflower, but Ana catches him leaning against the wall during a break. His date is nowhere in sight.]

[He smiles and takes the cup from her, but doesn't drink. He doesn't know her. She could be Kano, and it could be poisoned.]

[Grimm has unsurprisingly exchanged his regular outfit for something different and a pair of boots that add a few more inches to the Troupe Master's already impressive height. Despite that he walks with a fluidly that makes it clear he knows how to work his way around a crowd. Working in a troupe made motions easy for balance, dance and dodging other Vampires during conferences that he really did not want to be at but had no choice but to attend.

The Troupe Master's first stop is at the buffet. While he no longer required to eat or drink it did not mean he lost his taste for human food, and Grimm adored the creativity that came with cooking and baking. In particular Grimm makes a beeline for the tribute to fire because he loved meat. The roasted chicken and other such items are going on his plate.]

This is quite good. Nice and mild.

["Mild" he says, but the eagle eyed will notice the amount of spice and hot sauce Grimm's used on his food may be...concerning.]


B

[Before Grimm hits the dance floor he somehow finds time to change his outfit again. For the Master of the Grimm Troupe, he is not put off by the..."uniqueness" of the playlist, seamlessly changing from one type of dance to another depending on the music playing.

But once Grimm has had his fill of dancing alone, he will approach others on the floor with a bow.]

[With the night winding down, Grimm seemingly vanishes. A little strange for someone who was having a lot of fun during the party but he can be found squirreled away in a quiet corner and nursing an alarming red drink.

There is a still-full drink of the same color beside him. For a friend, you see.

Grimm is still open to being spoken to but for those who are just walking by, if they're listening they may catch snatches of the conversation Grimm is having....with himself?]

....yes, I believe so. The coming Night will bring an untold amount of nightmares upon these children. But they will endure. I know they will.

[Whatever he is hearing in response causes him to laugh quietly. Sadly.]

[ ana happens to be near said corner, searching the area for any other hidden trinkets from earlier. it's when she hears someone speak -- the man sitting alone at his table, to be precise -- and she hears a slight tidbit of what he says. nightmares... ]

[Prom!! The event Lia's been excited for since she got here! Even with everything going on, Lia's absolutely determined to enjoy tonight with everything she has, and look damn cute doing it. Lia probably does stand out at least a little bit in the mint green dress she's wearing for the occasion. Plus, her hair's pulled into an updo of some sort, and decorated with a very on-brand comb.]

[Keith grew up in human society, even went to a normal high school and everything. This is still his first prom ever because he absolutely avoided the shit out of this stuff. So why is he here? Good question. It looks like he's asking himself the same question while he's hunkered down at the far corner of a banquet table with a plate of roasted chicken.

He's at least dressed for the occasion and wearing this suit but also with a pair of fingerless leather gloves for some reason. Whenever the music gets particularly obnoxious or boppy he literally puts whatever he was eating down to cover his ears. Looks like he needs four hands, tbh.]

C. Standing up, still grumping woops
[So he's avoiding the main dance floor like it's a portal straight into the ninth circle of hell which means he'll eventually end up leaning against the wall with his arms folded and just watching other people dancing. You know. Instead of dancing with the Schrodinger's date he technically has for the evening.

He'll be extremely "preoccupied" with one of the magical trinkets -- the ones that blow bubbles. It's super enthralling. (It isn't.)]

Kokoro isn't graduating, so she showed up in a small and simple dress, hanging around awkwardly. But her party or not, prom is always a nice time, and the food is great. She carefully tries to take a cob of corn from a tower display... Unfortunately, Kokoro's short and not as coordinated as she'd like, so someone might want to stop that Jenga tower of produce from falling.

Well, that aside, she is still paying attention to the exhibits. The tribute to the invention of the wheel has some fun displays, or at least it looks like it does... considering it's swamped with people picking up donuts. Kokoro spots something, though, and reaches under the round (naturally) display stand, pulling out a nicer version of one of those dollar-store palm-sized plastic saxophones kids get in their loot bags. She stares and holds it up.

"I wonder if it's playable."

[ oh no. ohhh no. that is a disaster waiting to happen, and it's food nonetheless! ruby makes a mad dash over to the produce tower and holds her hands out to try and keep it from all tumbling down. ]

[Lin had wandered the swap market for a while, searching for something to wear to this mysterious "Prom" event. She knew that it was some kind of party, mainly for the students, there would be food and drinks but mainly dancing, and that as faculty she was expected to chaperone. Unfortunately, she had grown up in a forgotten corner of rural China, and then spent eight years after that wandering the Outlands. She had a very loose idea of what to expect or what modern fashions looked like.

Eventually, she had found something she liked. Even if it was 300 years out of date, she was kind of rocking it.]

[Lin munched on bits of melon from the fruit salad while admiring the decor. She didn't look displeased, but she didn't look wowed and amazed either.]

Mmph. Reminds me a bit of the Sahuagin queen's palace. It was much bigger, but didn't have electric lights. Also it smelled of fish.

[Another bite of cantaloupe.]

I think I like this better.

[Lin picked up one of the eternal sparklers only to have it immediately go out. It started up again a moment after she put it down. The same was true of every one of the little magical diversions around the room. Anything magical she touched seemed to malfunction and turn off until she left the area.]

Mages really do have too much time on their hands, if this is what they spend their time doing...

[She sounds like she's talking to herself, but that doesn't mean she's not audible.]

[The dance prompt! Lin isn't really going out of her way to go dancing, but she will say "yes" to just about anyone who asks without hesitation. Has she heard of this dance? Probably not, but who cares!? She's quick on her feet. She'll figure it out as she goes.]

[Jill has to work tonight - which is fine by her, she's never been a fan of proms - but not until a little later. So she takes this opportunity to slip into the performance hall and see what's up. The answer is A Lot.

There's a lot of dancing, a lot of music she's never heard or cared to hear, and a lot of food she...can she eat? She hasn't eaten since becoming a vampire, so she assumes she doesn't need to, but the question is can she? Assuming she's undead now, do the organs required to process food even work anymore in her body? Jill's brow is furrowed in concentration as she stares at a ham roast she would have been all over less than a week ago.

Or, of course, find her at the open bar. She's not drinking, just picking up various bottles and examining them with some amount of reverance. It seems she really appreciates the selection even though she's not partaking. Occasionally, she squints at a bottle and mutters something under her breath, looking conflicted.]

ii. prom; smoke break [cw: cigarettes]

[Inevitably, the general air of rowdy celebration drives Jill outside into the night, where she stands out by the road and lights up a cigarette. There's a lot on her mind (including a wicked headache), but it seems she's getting the hang of noticing individual senses again. For example, if you approach, or even just look at her long enough, she'll extend the pack of cigarettes towards you.]

iii. hog's swill; work hours/wildcard

[Maybe you got stood up. Maybe your date went poorly. Maybe you're just super tired of wine and ale and want something sweeter, but still decidedly alcoholic. Hell, maybe you just don't want to be at the prom anymore. No matter the case, Jill's got your back.

That's right: she's working tonight. Her boss had offered to let her take the night off for prom but she had politely declined. She'd rather be here, quite frankly.

Honestly, she's lucky. The Hog's Swill has some decent alcohol components, they're just largely unused and hidden behind canned beers and cheap wines. But she's been digging them out and mixing decent drinks from them. It's good to keep her skills sharp as she searches for a better bartending job somewhere a little less. Uh. Gross.]

[ well here's a familiar face. ana recalls that jill did mention she was going to daybreak academy, and yet somehow seeing her at prom is a bit surprising. ana's outside for some fresh air and happens to be standing in jill's vicinity when she's offered a cigarette. ]

Oh, no thank you. I'm not a smoker.

[ the offer was nice, but nah. ]

A pleasant surprise to see you here, Jill. Are you enjoying yourself?

[She wasn't expecting this much variety of food, if she's being honest with herself. It seems like it's just a little bit too extra, and she can't hold back her snort at the display for Flight.

This school is really something, huh?

Adelaide doesn't really need to eat, but it keeps up the illusion as she snacks on what's available. She's dressed to the nines, with her hair pulled back out of her face, heels on, and she's enjoying herself, honestly.]

[Adelaide has found a sparkler and has immediately latched onto it. This is fantastic. It's probably a little childish, but who cares? She's here to have fun, not police her own enjoyment.

She should probably be more considerate of the fun other people are having, though. If she spots anyone who's just been consistently hanging by themselves, she makes her way over to them.]

[With a grin and a bounce, wand setting off more sparkles.]

[Adelaide...cannot get drunk. This is something she is just now learning about herself, as she's hit up the bar a few times now. She's completely stone-cold sober.

Oh, well.

Even still, she'll raise her glass to the person nearest her at the bar, crooked grin in place.]

[ oh, wow. someone's looking real fancy! ruby grins at adelaide when she sees her and waves her over, plate of cookies in hand. ]

[ Rex's has been encouraged, bit by bit subtly or overtly, to act a little more openly. Everyone who has probably regrets it upon seeing his attire, which says less 'prom will be fun, friends' and more 'so you've reached my sanctum, worms'. His friend-date, who is a girl and not a girlfriend who he is dating, has opted for a suit, Rex has chosen robes. They're black, of course, though decorated in dark red details which depict a pair of wolves on the arms- their tails start at the sleeves, and their snouts meet between his shoulder blades, the two halves of their faces producing an optical illusion- either it's two wolves side on, or one wolf face to face. Their huge sleeves reach almost to the floor, level with the hem, and the collar is slightly raised and rounded with the shoulders extended outward. Though at a glance it looks like a solid piece, It's something like an elaborate coat, fastened tighter around his chest than his legs with occasional glimpses of some loose pants and long boots. It's finished off with a golden sash around his waist which follows the theme, by being a huge and loose bow that almost reaches the floor as well.

The fact that the whole thing doesn't flap around, catch on anything or get in his way at all gives it a kind of eerie feel to watch him walk around in, but that's not magic. Just a result of practice and how well he's designed the thing with the weight and wiring within. Naturally, it's also full of pockets which in turn are full of weird stuff just in case he needs them. For the night he's done his hair for once, slicked back aside from that long dangly bit in front of his face for some fucking reason. He's also wearing some makeup to cover the permanently purple stained rings around his eyes.

What a loser. ]

[Later in the evening, as things are starting to wind down, Adelaide turns to Rex.

She's been...having a good time. She hopes he's been having a good time, too. She nudges him with her elbow, though, appreciating the fact she can aim a little bit higher this time. Rex still towers over her, but it's a little less ridiculous now.]

[Hopefully good! Though she gets the feeling he's going to give her shit, just because that's how things go.]

[Weiss is mingling, of course. Not only is it a good opportunity to meet the other attendees of the school, there are also several notable figures present. And when opportunity knocks, Weiss Schnee answers. She's wearing an elegant dress, and platform shoes.]

The prom theme is pretty terrible in his opinion; a tribute to mankind's inventions or whatever. Uhh. It's a history themed dance, and it's just wrong. There are plaques.]

[The food sections are set up in some sort of theme as well, but he barely pays attention to what it is, grabbing things at random to fill a plate with. Then, there's the "flight" display, and he does get the references there. One important airline food is left out, one Michael introduced him to on the trip to New York.]

[Near the end of the dance, Toki takes half a second to dash behind the bar and grab a couple large bottles of ale. He doubts Jolyne is a wine girl. Once he returns to her, he has an idea.]

She's slowly raising a brow at Toki as he returns with those bottles and those words. She's heard a thing or two about things that happen after this mess and she's not entirely sure if he knows exactly what that normally means.

But whatever, she'll roll with it and see where this ends up going.]

[If there's one thing any teenager appreciates, it's a good spread of food. And given GV's no different in that regard, one of his first stops is the exhibits; at first he pays less attention to the history and more to the food, stacking a plateful and mingling with anyone in the crowd.

[After that, he'll make his way to a table with a stacked up plate of food to sit and eat. He may make a trip more than once, but either way, he'll drop by your table if he doesn't look like he'll be interrupting a date or something.]

[Someone's feeling bolder since Bowser taught him a thing or two more about dancing. Compared to the last dance, Gunvolt's actually much more daring on the floor, and he'll get up for good music and get on the floor and dance. During particularly appropriate moments, he may even show off a bit with a harmless lightning light show, having arcs of bright blue electricity shoot from his hands into the air and move with the music. He's mindful enough not to hit anyone with them, and even if someone did, they'd find that the electric charge from them is really quite weak. Might be enough to just get your hair to stand on end at worst.

He'll especially do this during any songs that talk about lightning and/or thunderbolts. Come join in him in putting on a show? Ask him to dance? Gawk? Ruin his fun? Whatever goes, really.]

[So, for some unspeakable reason, Jail appears to have been chosen as one of the staff chaperones. Hopefully, this wasn't a deliberate decision on the Daybreak faculty's part, and rather the result of her just showing up, because she's pretty unlikely to actually stop any misbehavior.]

[She does appear to be having fun with the opportunity to dress up, at least, because she enjoys looking good. Combined with a crown braid and a pair of six-inch heels, because apparently her already-impressive height just wasn't enough for tonight, it's certainly an outfit that makes an impact.]

[Since you can find her on the dancefloor, moving with casual grace, it seems likely that she's done something to those heels to magically make them easier to balance in- frankly, a few of those moves look like they should've resulted in her breaking a bone or two even if she'd done them in flat shoes.]

[ For the duration of the night, Ekkehardt is dressed in a fanciful, but slightly odd outfit. The swirling gold and black smoke he has in place of coattails are the most eyecatching thing, but the strange patterns seem to shift now and then. They're motionless if you actually look at them directly, though. ]

[ He doesn't need to eat, but he is keeping an eye on the food and drink. It won't be the first time someone's tried to do something funny to them, as a prank, and he'd rather not have any accidents.

He does pick at food, more for the look of things than anything else. He samples a little bit of everything, sometimes looking vaguely thoughtful or just completely blank. Whether he's actually enjoying the experience is up to interpretation. ]

[ At various points during the night, Ekkehardt can be seen toying with a few trinkets from the exhibits. He seems most interested in the sparklers and torches, using them in combination with a little bit of his own magic to make ornate displays of fiery patterns in the air.

If anyone stops to watch, they'll quickly catch his attention. ]

To be fair, he hasn't really talked with Ekkehardt much, but he at least has a relatively positive opinion of him.

Plus, he's in a good mood. What's the harm in saying hi?]

A rose, which may be noted, Keith is also wearing. ]

[ James is... actually more interested in the exhibit than the buffet. Even though he's very much in Charming School Prince mode at prom, he's still a nerd at the core of himself. You might find him pushing past you, while mumbling apologetically. ]

[ Early in the evening, you might see James and Keith apart. This isn't weird in itself, but the way James is lingering a good bit away from where Keith is wall-flowering, with two glasses of punch in his hands...? That might be weird. Looks like someone can use a little push? ]

[ Though they do spend some time apart, a lot of the evening James and Keith are seen together, standing by the buffet and chatting for the most part. You could approach them and join their chat. Or you might overhear some exchanges like... ]

[When you've been around for as long as Jack has, you learn a few things. More than a few. It didn't matter what song and what era, Jack was dancing to them all. Careful though, he may be leaving some frost at his feet but he's definitely not trying to do on purpose! For once. The fern-frost was definitely a sight to behold but it was still ice.

Eventually, after enough complaints, Jack merely pulled the frost from the floor and let the float around until they burst into bits of snowflake. How about some snow to go with your Prom? It doesn't last long, don't worry, so you'll only feel a small nip on your nose.]

[He doesn't know the first thing about proms, aside from the dancing. Jack can be found basically everywhere. He will be at the exhibits, the fun wands, or just hanging out above courtesy of the Wind suddenly blowing in the lift him up either onto the roof or simply hanging out in the rafters. [Normally she puts enough product in it to tame the curly mess into something more manageable, but Sarona decides to leave the natural curls and go for a different style for prom. The dress may be tight and long--the rune tattoos on her chest, right arm, and left shoulder easily visible--but Sarona merely hikes it up with the train like a cape draped over her arm when she gets to the food table. She has a plate she's putting food onto and she's not afraid to try anything that maybe she hasn't had before.

But that doesn't mean she won't try to get someone else to try it first.]

Waiting for a better song?

[If she finds a cute girl, she is definitely going to ask them to dance. She has a few people she's got an eye out for, but she's not going to limit herself. Beautiful girls dressed to the Nines? As if she could help herself.

She won't turn down a guy who asks her to dance, but she won't be seeking them out on her own. No point in giving anyone mixed signals, right? And she might try to meander her way over to the music and put a song or two on. Things that are a bit borderline in the "appropriateness" column.]

She's gonna maybe sneak one of these out and look it over so she can maybe make a bigger one to use for celebrating after all this mess with the Herald is handled. She uses the wand to make bubble shapes in the sky, draw stars, diamonds, and even hearts that she directs and the whatever cute girl might be over by her. This is a time to enjoy herself and not let her get caught up in the drama that's to come and she's going to take full advantage.]

A1: Dance the night away!

[Bowser's wearing a black and red version of the suit he wore for his wedding, complete with spikey top hat and all. The only other difference is pretty normal red tie...with the exception of the Bowser symbol (that's literally just his face) printed on it. Apparently he's making merchandise or something. For a good portion of the night, he can be seen either dancing by himself and having a blast or actually dancing with whoever is brave enough to accept his offer for a dance or to actually ask him to dance.]

A2: Dance Battle! You and me!

[As the night winds down, Bowser opts to mix things up a bit. While the slow dances and the fast dances are all well and good, he wants to kick things up a notch. Especially with how many wall flowers there are. If they want to just watch people dance, then he's going to give them a real show. After finishing a particularly showy dance move that somehow ended in a split (that also didn't end in the ripping of his clothes) he stands up and lets out a bellowing laugh.]

Alright, let's end this thing right: WITH A DANCE-OFF! Who wants to see if they can dethrone the king?

[...yeah, he is dead serious about this and probably more smug than he has any right to be.]

B: Taking a break:

[When not dancing, Bowser is making sure to grab a portion of food that all together can only be summed up as "Bowser-sized". Somehow he manages to not make a mess of his (admittedly nice) suit despite having table manners that are...questionable. However, he does seem to be in a very good mood, even recommending some of the food to anybody who happens to walk by.

Especially the meat.]

C: What do you mean there are no fireworks?

[When he heard this whole prom was supposed to have a very big fire theme, you can imagine Bowser's frustration when they didn't even have any fireworks planned. Not wanting any of that, he actually heads outside for a while to take care of someone. If you happen to look out the window after this, for a good ten minutes or so, there will actually be a good amount of fireworks exploding into the air. To anyone who is curious about this and attempts to go outside, they'll be able to spot Bowser a good ways off from the performance center, launching fire balls into the air and exploding them with magic. If uninterrupted, he continues for the full amount of time, wiping his hands once satisfied.]

Christo keeps as close to the wall as he can, clutching the (non-alcoholic) drink in his hand like a lifeline, grimacing all the while and wearing the suit his superior had had mailed to him. He's too old for prom. He didn't even go to his own way back when.

So how in the world did he let that idiot talk him into being here?]


B - Picture Perfect

[The night's gone on and on and by some miracle, Christo hasn't died. A rousing success.

He could probably leave now with none the wiser, but he can only imagine his superior's nagging if he does. "Why didn't you make any friends, Christo?" "You're wasting your youth, little Christo!"

Ugh.

But maybe, just maybe, there's a way to get around this. Christo searches the floor for the closest amenable person he can find and approaches, holding up his phone and positively beaming.]

[As Desco was floating on by (she'd rather use her legs for dancing) she spots Christo standing up against the wall. She notes that he's all by himself and pauses for a moment. He definetely doesn't look like he's having a good time. Maybe he wants to join in on the fun but he's too shy? Ah, that must be it! Desco happily floats over to the angel and gives him a wave and a small smile.]

You look really bored, Mister. Would you like to dance with Desco?

B...ish

No one here is as happy as he is. That's because, quite frankly, no one here has come with Imelda at their side, the woman of his dreams. Dressed in a dark vest and purple cravat, his colors pay compliment to her, but it's the marigolds tucked in his lapel and in her hair that really tell it. He's here with her. For her. Happily, because of her.

The little private joke that comes of the marigolds and skulls (and the sentiment too, of returning home,) only makes it better.

He arrives with his hand locked with her, lingering looks thrown her way, and for most of the night he stays there by her side. They sit together for periods of time but given the right song, he lures her out to the dancefloor, abandoning his cane. In the faster songs, he shimmers often, his power working every now and again to keep him sturdier. In the slower, when he gets to swaying, he manages much better. No matter the case, he smiles blissfully all evening, as if the coming apocalypse doesn't exist. Or anything else for that matter.

But perhaps you can interrupt him for a dance in whatever moments Imelda is off. Or to ask him what the heck is going on with the light show. He's probably starring off in a daydream.

C

It makes him laugh, those little wands. The one thing in all this magic world that hasn't proven real and here they are anyway, making it so. With no shame, he takes one up and brings it with him off to the side of the dance floor. Just because he's resting his feet doesn't mean he can't have a little fun twirling that wand absently and watching what it makes. Oh if his in-laws could see him now.

D

He goes along the open bar, muttering, "La cerveza para abuela, el vino para tío..." not finding what he's looking for. Not at first. His face lights up then as he snatches up that bottle.

"Los espíritus para los espíritus, y la tequila para mi~!" He spins around with it and finds a seat, one already with smaller glasses set upon it. Or cups, as the case may be. He flips the bottle up under his arm and over, showing off as he catches it, pops the top open, and starts to pour.

D

She came to this dance on his arm, dressed up in something purple, lacy, and baring her shoulders and with her hair done up with marigold hair pins; and she hasn't much left his side since. There's been a few times here and there when she's let him go off to talk to other--and a few times where she's been pulled away... but she doesn't stay far from him for long.

And it's moments like these that she waits for him to return, smiling and giving a small exhaled laugh at his antics. "Show off," she teases him, but that doesn't seem to dampen her amusement. If anything, she's even more fond, seeing him in such good spirits. And bringing them good spirits to boot.

"I hope you're not planning on drinking that whole bottle yourself?" She slides a glass for her his way--an indication that she's inclined to drink with him tonight. After all, it is a party, and she's here to enjoy herself for once.
