Every year, as the school year comes to a close, Daybreak Academy holds its Prom, an immense gala for the students to dress in their finest clothing, dance, mingle, and make merry. This year’s prom theme, selected by the outgoing student council, is “The Unyielding Spirit of Man”. Held in Soleil’s performance center, the enormous stage has been pulled out to make a huge dance floor, with the seating rearranged around the floor on all sides for onlookers to mingle, eat, and enjoy the festivities.

In keeping with the theme, the hall is decorated with tributes to mankind’s ingenuity, with various exhibits tastefully marked with museum-like plaques surrounding it. Exhibits celebrating all manner of inventions from fire, to the written word, to spellcraft, runecraft, and flight, all are commemorated here.

Of course, no prom, or indeed any Daybreak event would be complete without food. While each exhibit serves as an educational tribute to mankind’s accomplishments, each station is also a themed food dish. The tribute to fire, for example, hosts a variety of roasts and barbecued meat of the finest cuts, while the agriculture exhibit holds a bevy of fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads. Some of these pairings are a bit of a stretch (the tribute to flight, for example, holds sandwiches and peanuts, a reference, perhaps to airline food) but all are made with the finest of ingredients.

A - So about that airline food?
Mingling at the banquet table is a good way to be social without worrying about stepping on anyone’s toes. While proms and the herald may dull the appetite for some, it would be a waste to let all the food go untouched.

While there are Faculty and Grad students volunteering to keep these particular drinks spike-free, they cannot be watching it the whole time. However, if one plans to do this - do not get caught.

B - Dance! Boogie Wonderland!
As part of the theme, the variety of music has expanded greatly from the usual prom fare - long as it’s danceable, it’s being played, and sometimes the results are jarring going from a disco classic to a regal waltz, or a crooner love song to a bouncy k-pop chart topper that will get stuck in one’s head. Can you keep up with the mad pace? It’s enough to get even the most seasoned dancer hopping mad.

Or will it be viva la music revolution to get some sanity on the dance floor?

C - A Collection of Wallflowers
Maybe socializing isn’t your thing, or dancing isn’t the kind of activity you enjoy. There’s plenty of seating around the room for you to shuffle into a corner and spend the evening holed up with a plate of food. And for those more interested in poking and prodding at the exhibits, there’s a few little themed trinkets and prizes hidden away for the keen-eyed. Elegant wands that produce sparkles, bubbles and smoke, miniscule instruments, sparklers and colorful torches that never go out (and notably can’t set anything on fire) - all made to produce flashy effects, to spice up your experience on the dance floor - or someone’s experience, anyway.

D - Wine and Beer
As is typical of Daybreak, there’s an open bar with rich, well-aged ales and wines from all over Europe. And it is, of course, open to just about everyone. After all, this is France! For those who want to take a bit of an edge off the night, their worries about what is to come, or just generally be more sociable, there is plenty of libation to help you get there. Just be careful, nobody’s going to be counting your drinks but you.

Not long! [Okay, he just turns to march down the hall to the exit, expecting Gongenzaka to follow.] It'll be a problem if we miss it, but I think we're okay.

O-Of course it would be a problem-! [He sputters, appearing to do everything in his power to not simply run out of the room. As it is his hands are visibly shaking as he locks the dorm room's door, and he very nearly dropped the keys.

Everything is very strange, when you're suddenly three inches shorter than you're used to. Shoes are Strange.] Let's go, before we do miss it!

[He's going! He's nervous and his hands are stuffed in his pockets as he focuses on breathing and just. Making it to the bus. Where the other students are, and it's not quite as nerve-wracking as being alone with Gongenzaka when on a

date.

He's never been on a date, he doesn't know how to behave on a date and mostly he's just sparing Gongenzaka glances as they make their way to the bus and get on it to be carried to prom.]

[Is this a date??? This is probably a date.

Somehow, Gongenzaka is still thinking about how much lower three inches can feel.

Somehow, they keep glancing at the other when the other isn't looking for that matter. It's all very silly.

But they'll get on the bus, they'll take their seats and-]

....how do you wear these sorts of things all the time...

[he had to ask, he had to, these shoes are the worst,]

[Gongenzaka said it was a date!! And Yuya is now Hyper Aware that it's a date.

He folds his hands in his lap once he sits, sparing Gongenzaka another look--and then down to his feet.

His expression twists wryly.] Your feet get used to it. [...] Um, but you look really nice.

[~~He's said a lot of things, and he was a Fool,~~ it's definitely a date.

(He is Still a fool, and now he's a Surprised fool)] Mnh- d...do you think so then?

I, the man Gongenzaka, attempted to find some way to match your own suit this time...though I was uncertain what tie you would have...

[..........................he makes no comment on the tie, as he looks at it, but anyway.] Do you think I succeeded in that much at least however?

[Mr. Bowser said it was ~Classy~.]

You did! [Yuya looks up.] Even without me, you're very handsome right now. I mean... especially.

E...Especially..? [he succeeded...]

Mnmh- You look good as well..! You... [...it occurs to him that Yuuya always has the same suit, but different accessories, and if he compliments the suit, what does that mean for every time before!?]

...You have a nice clip today. [It really is nice, actually.] It is a good choice, [he adds more firmly, attempting to ease his nerves.]

Oh! Thanks. [He ducks his head, moving to pointlessly brush his pinned-back bangs. He'd really tried to dress special, just taste is just. Questionable.]

Mnh!

[.... .....

what...does he say next...

The bus ride is far from one that should be lengthy, but filling any amount of time with too much silence makes him infinitely aware of the situation. It's a date. He said it was one. He, who until practically a week prior, didn't even realize there was any crush to have. That he apparently, had one rather. What if he ruins this?

For Yuuya, specifically he realizes, left to stare off ahead as he thinks. Yuuya was the one to say it first. He didn't even need to have a panicked chat with someone, he-

...

He just won't ruin it. He won't. He won't...] Are...

...Are you excited about the dance? [he tries, swallowing.]

[Yuya averts his gaze as the silence drags on, staring out the window so he doesn't have to keep facing his own nerves every time he looks at Gongenzaka. If it's a date, should he... be doing something else? Hold Gon's hand? He wants to, but he's not brave enough.

He finally settles for just putting his hand on the seat between them, limply resting it so it's totally there and Gongenzaka can grab it at any time. If--if he wants.

And then his attention jerks back up.] Huh? Oh--yeah, yeah! Um, I'm really excited.

[He smiles shyly, and it's a little more genuine. He just wishes he could calm down.]

[For the moment... ...Gongenzaka's hands are in his lap, one gripping the other tightly.

...No handholding just yet, apparently.] Given that there is no attack this time, there will be a lot more time to enjoy the event aah? And I will not have to be 'prepared' to shift either!

[nothing kills a date like a bear]

Won't you have to shift near the end of it anyway? It's still going to be dark. [They have more time, but Gongenzaka's never delayed his shifting if he could help it. It's uncomfortable, right?]

Mnh-

I, the man Gongenzaka, am able to put it off for that much at least..! It would take a significant shock to force otherwise from me, [Gongenzaka adds for reassurance.] Worry not! [he continues with a determined smile.] No matter what, I, the man Gongenzaka, will remain entirely human for this evening..!

[famous. last. words.]

[If only. Yuya jumps a little, waving his hands.] Y-you don't have to do that for me! I don't want to make it harder on you.

Mnh-!

Y...You-

I...It is not so strenuous, you should know..! I, the man Gongenzaka, was required to do so while the BBC was here after all...

[Did it make his evening classes suck? Y e s. But he still did it!] And it is my own choice, I assure you! It will be fine.

Okay. [He bites his lip briefly, looking back out the window like it's going to hide the faint color rising in his cheeks.]

[This is perhaps more awkward than the bus ride when Yuuya was constantly swapping seats. Gongenzaka's thoughts are swimming in a largely indecipherable mess for himself, and desperately he tries to find a way to bring conversation back.

Looking at where they are, he realizes quickly what that will be.] ...We are almost there, I believe.

[Yuya blinks rapidly.] Yeah!

[He stalls for a moment before he stands, gripping the back of the seat in front of him and this is how he's going to ride all the way to the venue.

And when they arrive, he'll let Gongenzaka get up and head out first, following behind him. Should they walk in together? Side by side? He definitely notices the other couples who do, girls hanging off their boyfriend's arms as they cross the entrance.]

[For someone who pays so much attention to everything, Gongenzaka is truly oblivious. While he waits at the side of the bus door for Yuuya to come off, he doesn't exactly reach for the other's arm either.

Frankly it feels like how they probably arrived at the last dance, with less arming of students with weapons.

His arm Is at his side however (well, both arms are)...so...Yuuya Could grab it?]

[He could reach for it. He definitely side-eyes Gongenzaka's arm, fingers twitching. But wouldn't Gongenzaka offer it if he wanted to? He's the one who asked Yuya out. He's the one who said "more than friends". Which of them is supposed to start something?

He doesn't quite get the nerves before they're at the entrance, and then there's too many people watching. He's still not completely open about guys, so instead he folds his arms to his side.] There's already a lot of people here. Uh, where do you want to...?

[Start, or something. It's prom, so it's mostly food and dancing and some drinking if he wants to try it.]

[The problem, ultimately, is that Gongenzaka himself doesn't even know what more than friends means. Definition-wise he sort of does. But in terms of actions? What to do, what to say?

He has no idea. Should it be different? Why should it be different?? He enjoys how he normally spends time with Yuuya, but what would make it better-

Uh-] Auh... ...Should we eat something, before we dance? Or...

[Well he's assumed they're dancing at least.]

[Oh, they are dancing this time. Yuya feels his face heat up all over again. Maybe it won't be as noticeable in the dark.

Of course they happened to walk in during a slow song.] I don't care! Are you hungry, I'm not hungry but we'll eat first if you are.

[HAS HE SAID THE WRONG THING OR THE RIGHT THING HE DOESN'T KNOW-] Auh....Auhh...

W-Well, it should help us to feel more ready right? [Calm their nerves??? His nerves???

~~if he tries dancing right now he will step on a foot and he Doesn't Want That.~~]

Okay. [He looks at Gongenzaka... expecting him to take the lead to which buffet they want to choose from. His suggetsion, he's taking the lead.]
