Fixer-Upper (Aube Floor 3)

[ Multiple midnight dumpster runs later, Peter finally has a decent collection of stuff to work on here. The common room on the third floor of Aube has been temporarily taken over by junk and tools, which have been loosely sorted into different piles. Here's a bunch of electronic parts. Here's some casings that seem mostly intact. These are screens, that appears to be a pile of ancient game console tidbits... The biggest item is an old CRT TV that is just wrecked. But - it's not what he's working on right this second. No, he seems to be focused on multiple funny-looking bracelets laid out on a cloth. He's had at least three requests for webshooters by now, and he aims to get them done today. Also, finally fix the one that Kano busted.

See what he's up to? Yell at him for taking up all the space? Or maybe if you ask him nicely, he'll build something fun for you.

In this prompt (as well as all of the others!) Peter has a fresh set of claw marks on his face. The cuts are clean and healing nicely, but obviously very fresh. Someone ran into something nasty lately. ]

STARR Club

[ Who the hell was dumb enough to let Peter start a club again? Oh wait, this is technically Gohan's fault probably. Though honestly, it's safer than just letting all these technically inclined idiots blow up their dorm room or something.

The STARR Club (Science, Technology And Runes/Robotics) was technically up and running in the first few days of school. Pete's definitely been in and out doing stuff. But now? It's officially, definitely open, and Peter is heading up the first meeting. He's. Frankly a bit overwhelmed? Please someone else take this over so he can go back to making webshooters in the corner like he actually wants to do. ]

So uh - I guess we need rules? Or something? To be official.

Soleil, Returning Late

[ Of course that just covers the daytime activities. At night ... Peter tries to sleep, he really does, but inevitably he wakes up at some point and just needs to leave. Swing out to Soleil, get some fresh air come back at an ungodly hour, whatever. Today he's donned his hobo spider suit to go foil some midnight muggings in the local town. He's also taking a swing through campus too, so maybe you see this mysterious Spider-Man out and about?

Or, perhaps worse, you catch him just as he's sneaking back into Aube at 3 AM. The suit is tucked away, but he definitely is sneaking through the hallways up to his room, trying not to look guilty. ]

Spider Astronomy - CLOSEDish

[ Whose idea was this again? It doesn't really matter, honestly; Peter would have been up here regardless and the other two spider kids are nerdy enough this likely appealed to them too. Early in the morning of January 21st, Peter sneaks his way up to the roof of the Aube dorms, carrying a duffel bag full of junk with him. It's cold, as always, but the night is clear, and they have a perfect view of the moon. Pete's here to set up some blankets, put together the world's worst telescope, and watch the lunar eclipse with Gwen and Miles. He's even gotten a couple thermoses full of hot soup from the kitchen. ]

D'you think the faculty does some kind of weird blood moon ritual or something for this?

[ It wouldn't surprise him, honestly. This place is weird enough already.

Of course if you're up on the roof at about the same time (doing the same thing, maybe!) it wouldn't be hard to run into the trio. ]

[ A rule he didn't think he'd have to add, and yet. And yet. ]

What kinda experience d'you have with making this kinda stuff anyway? I'm pretty good at chemistry, so I can help with the colors.

I've made gunpower several times~! From sulfur and charcoal and potassium nitrate; but only done the fireworks thing twice! With chlorate oxidizers and copper salts and it's always been just shades of blue! I haven't experimented with too many colors because I may have set my old school's lab on fire like four times~! And I accidentally made pink fire with runes so we can add that right in!

What, seriously? You can make rune fireworks? That's sweet as hell.

I don't remember how I did it, though! Professor Gohan said I had a couple of them written upside-down or something, I don't remember which ones! But I can just keep trying different combinations until I find it again~!

[And yes, he's brought the rune textbook. It may not even be open to the same page he'd found the fire inscription on, but that's just another thing to test.]

[ Oh hell yes. Peter instantly leans over to look at the book. ]

How does it work anyway? Do you need special materials?

[He holds up a black marker.]

This worked fine~! Then you just draw them and wait, I guess. That's what I've been doing anyway!

[The girl at the assembly had used a marker, and it had also been sufficient enough to set the PPE scarecrow on fire. Toki feels confident in his choices.]

What do you want to test them on?

[ Everything? Everything. ]

Dude, uh - paper maybe? Just to kinda get the hang of them.

[A good place to start. They wouldn't have the STARR Club long if it burned down in the first week.]

Awesome. Lemme get some markers and a notebook.

[ He zooms off to do just that. ]

[While Peter goes to find materials, Toki leafs through the rune book to see what else they can try to make fires and explosions with. Priorities. It's in French, and he's going by diagrams. That just makes it a bit more of a challenge.]

[ Eh, it's just more fun that way. Peter flops back down next to him to take a look. ]

Huh ... That's gonna make it tougher.

And also more exciting!

[He points to a seven rune scrawling that has a sketch of something vaguely flame-like next to it. They could be leaves though.]

Let's try this one~!

[ Huh. it looks more like leaves, but. Okay! ]

What does rune magic typically do? Can you cast, like, anything with it?

I don't know~! I think so! A girl used it on me at the assembly, but she said to take a class and wouldn't explain things! So, I've just been experimenting independently~!

[Nothing can go wrong with that. Not one thing.]

[ It's such a good idea. ]

Well okay, I guess we can't really hurt anything, right?

[Toki carefully draws the runes down, copying one backwards and leaving one line missing on a second.]

Now we wait, I guess!

[The paper... melts into a blue gooey substance.]

Interesting.

[ UHHhhhh. He. Pokes it with a finger? ]

This is the opposite of fire.

Oh! I messed up! That one's backwards~!

[He tries again, correcting the backward rune, and the missing line now fixed.]

Okay! I think I got it right this time!

[A tree starts growing out of the page, rapidly. Roots sprawl out, knocking over things in the lab and upsetting other ongoing experiments. Branches extend and break the window. The top of the tree pushes up through the ceiling tiles.]

I guess those were leaves~!

[ Peter jolts back as a freakin tree appears in their lab, kind of gawking up at it. ]

Dude, that's amazing! Completely wrong, but.

That... might be enough experimenting for today!

[He certainly doesn't want to end up setting the tree on fire by mistake.]

Yeah uh - runes are kind of dangerous, huh?

[ He's delighted, though. And already flipping through the book to look for more. ]

D'you think there's one for turning invisible? I got grounded for like two weeks.

Oh, there has to be something for invisibility~! That would be so useful!

[Caution thrown to the wind, experiment away.]

I kept sneaking out without telling the RA. And he's, like super mad about it.

[ So clearly, the answer is an invisibility rune and not actually behaving. ]

You can totally use an invisibility rune inscription for that! What would the book diagram look like though? A ghost?

[His floor doesn't have an RA, and he's very happy with that arrangement.]
