[ MID-AFTERNOON @ VALVATOREZ'S OFFICE (Valvatorez) ]
[Valvatorez had no doubt been informed that he was specifically recommended to one of the Academy's new students, and that the student in question would be paying him a visit to discuss things and figure out an arrangement that would work for both of them, with any other classes she opted for being scheduled around that.

Having been told where his office was, and wanting to have this taken care of as soon as possible, she went straight there after having her lunch, knocking lightly on the door and then cracking it open just barely before calling in:] Professor Valvatorez? Do you have a moment?

[ LATE AFTERNOON WANDERING @ WHEREVER & EVENTUALLY LIBRARY (open) ]
[Desi's classes aren't to start for another few days, as the administrators wanted to be sure she had at least some time to settle in and familiarize herself with things. So, following her meeting with Valvatorez, the girl takes to wandering from place to place, in part to figure out what routes she'll be taking to get from one place to another, but also just to see things; almost everything here is completely new to her—though that's probably actually true for a lot of new students—and it would feel like a waste to not do some looking around now that she, for once in her life, has a real opportunity to.

As such, she can be spotted in various places, mostly looking to see what is where. The library does draw some particular interest, though, and as such she does linger around there for a fair amount of time. No reading anything though; so far she's just interested in seeing what sorts of things (and how many) are here, more or less only glossing over the shelves as she passes by them.]

[ EVENING @ AUBE 203 (Gunvolt) ]
[Eventually—finally—Desidera makes her way to the room she was assigned to. She had expected to not be left by herself, so the fact that she has a roommate is not any particular surprise. Also unsurprising is that the name of said roommate—Gustav—doesn't ring any bells; she had already met a few other students but none of them had given her that name.

Expecting that her roommate was already in for the evening, she slowly opens the door with probably much more caution than is really necessary, not wanting to surprise him too much if he wasn't expecting her.]

[ If Desidera happens to wander past a certain section of lawn in the quad, Vivi is there, brandishing....a stick. Various stick-like implements are scattered around him - borrowed, because he's trying hard to be well-behaved.

He waves it around with a vigorous sense of enthusiasm. What he's doing is not explained, though clearly he's putting a great deal of effort into it.

The stick's tip begins to glow red for a moment, and then he catches sight of Desidera and waves enthusiastically. The glow fades. ]

Um, hello! Nice to meet you!

[ Politeness takes precedence over...whatever experiment he was trying, clearly. ]

[Not being the sort to interrupt someone if they looked busy, Desidera had initially intended to let Vivi be.

However, she's also usually not the sort to ignore when someone is calling to her, so when he does, she stops in place for a moment, then changes course to come closer. Having evidently recognized their purpose, she makes sure to avoid stepping on any sticks, not-sticks or maybe-sticks.]

Hello! [And, being aware that he was doing something:] I hope I wasn't being too much of a distraction, and I'm very sorry if I was. I've just arrived here this morning and wanted to have a look around before retiring to the room I was assigned to.

You're not being distracting! It's okay. I can practice any time, but I only get to meet people sometimes! [ He puts down his stick and wanders over, holding out a hand in greeting. ]

My name's Vivi! It's nice to meet you. What's your name?

[She takes the hand and gives it the tiniest of squeezes. There are a few questions running through her head as she does so, mostly regarding what exactly Vivi even is, but those questions go unasked.]

Ah, mine is Desidera. [Not wanting to just do introductions and be on her way (that would be a little rude, she thinks), Desi finds herself a spot in the grass and starts to sit, intent on providing company for at least a little bit if Vivi has no objections. She has some time to spare before she absolutely needs to head to the dorms.] Would you mind if I stayed here for a little while?

[ Those are good questions! Unfortunately, Vivi would have no idea how to answer them. Such is life.

He sits down in the grass with her, to be polite. ] Nuh-uh. I don't mind!

So, um - you're new, right? Did you grow up here? [ He sort of waves expansively at everything, and then realises he should probably clarify. ] On Earth, I mean.

[Desidera idly rocks back and forth slightly, keeping her attention on Vivi the whole time. If he had chosen to go back to what he was doing, that would have been fine, but opting to take a break to sit with her...is fine too, she thinks. People being okay with being around her is a good thing.]

New to the Academy, yes. And I— [It's at this moment Vivi clarifies his other question, inadvertently giving her a possible answer to one of those unasked questions of hers.] Yes, though I wasn't allowed to leave my home very much.

That sounds...
[ He almost asks about it, but hesitates. ]

um, kinda boring.

Is it more exciting being here? Do you like it?

[ Sometimes people tried to keep other people. He knows and understands this enough that maybe, it's not always a good idea to bring it up. ]

[That perfectly blunt admission gets a giggle.] Oh, it is. And honestly, I think anything would be more exciting than that.

I haven't been here long enough to be able to say if I do like it here or not, but I suspect that I will. Do you like it here?

[alreadyhuman]

Uh-huh! I get to meet lots and lots of interesting people, and a lot of them are really nice! And there's books, and stuff to learn...

[ He giggles a little. ] The Outlands was interesting, too! But I like it much better here. I've never had something that feels like I can call it home before!

[The 'possible answer' to Desi's unasked question might have just become a 'definite answer', but that doesn't really feel to her like it should be any cause for concern; regardless of whatever his origin is, Vivi seems like a really nice kid.]

Like reading, do you? Mm, so do I. [What goes unsaid here is that reading was one of the few activities that were available to her during any free time she'd gotten at home. There were some other things she had spent her time on now and then, either until she lost interest or her mother forbid those things, but the majority of it was with her nose in a book.

Most of those books had one thing or another to do with her lessons, though, so sometimes it didn't actually feel like free time.


His admitting that he likes it here does give her a good feeling about being here herself, especially with how he pretty easily calls it home.] I think I've got quite a bit to look forward to, then.
