EVENT - DAWNBREAKING PARTY

DAWNBREAKING PARTY
IC Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

The sun has risen on a new year - a year closer to Daybreak’s ultimate confrontation, but a new year all the same. Instead of the customary welcome assembly and speech for students in January, the administration has decided to celebrate the students’ achievements of thwarting two Heralds, and thus ensuring that the sun can continue to rise at all.

Soleil’s local amusement park, the Radiant Carnival, has been reserved for the Academy’s use on January 10th - which means free, unlimited reign of the park’s features and amenities, often with some further magical twists.

A. Welcoming Feast
Those who have attended the Academy before will by now be familiar with the kind of lavish spread Daybreak puts on for their start-of-year banquet, and the fare is as sumptuous as usual. The presentation comes with a twist, however - given that the party is hosted in the amusement park, the food has been laid out as an extensive buffet that students and staff can visit throughout the day, changing to new selections at certain hours to match the time of day.

The usual selection of drinks - both nonalcoholic and not - has also been made available through a combination of serving staff (for alcohol) and enchanted self-serve machinery (for anything else), allowing the possibly-inadvisable decision of mixing as many drinks as you can possibly get your hands on.

B. Amusement Park
For those who haven’t been to the Radiant Carnival before, it’s a colourful and magical sight - due to support from the Academy and the profit it turns from being one of the few places where the veil is more loosely enforced, it’s perpetually a bright spot, even in the winter landscape. Offering everything from the high-octane thrills of rollercoasters and drop towers to more sedate attractions like riverboat rides and merry-go-rounds, there’s no end to the entertainment that the Carnival provides - if an amusement park ride is reasonably common, the Carnival is sure to have it.

If amusement park rides aren’t to your tastes, there are also alleys and corners where people can gather for more traditional carnival games or - for those who prefer more technological pursuits, an arcade with everything from crane games and photobooths to high-tech game cabinets both enchanted and not. For those who want something more quiet, there’s space to sit and admire frozen water features, peaceful winter gardens, and even a castle to explore made from ice.

There’s bound to be something for everyone at the Radiant Carnival - or, at least, it aims to reach that standard.

C. Fireworks Show
As the day draws to a close and the sun sets, fireworks begin to burst in intricate patterns and vibrant colours in the darkening sky. While seating and rugs have been set up for convenience in the best places to watch the show from, those who are more daring might very well be able to secure a chance to set off some of these special fireworks themselves.

Or you can just bring your own and fire them off from somewhere else within the park, if you find the Academy’s selection lacking - though the administration will likely frown on it, if you’re caught.

D. Wildcard

The Radiant Carnival is open and free, at least for the day, to all of Daybreak’s attendees. Why not take advantage of it?

[Emizel had been hesitating to take the candy. Why was this other kid(?) giving it to him? No one gives away candy unless there's something wrong with it. But then again, he doesn't look very evil or anything either...]

[So, he inevitably accepts it.]

...Why? They're just explosions, yanno.

[...]

[He internally sighed to himself, bringing his knees closer to his chest and just focused more on the sky. Even when he was just trying to normally talk with someone, he messes it up somehow.]

[ It's just ordinary candy. These happen to be gummi bears. ]

Yeah, but normal explosions are like...boom! And then they're all done! And these are all pretty and they make big patterns, and it's nice!

You don't like them? [ It's an honest question. His curiosity shows in his voice. He pulls his legs up to his chest, resting his head on them so he's looking at Emizel sideways. ]

[He still wants to talk?] Well...

[They were a bit colorful than normal explosions.] They aren't that special. I can make stuff sort of like it.

[That wasn't a yes or no answer.]

[ Fortunately for Emizel Vivi is IMMEDIATELY sidetracked. ]

Really? [ He sits up straight again. ] Um, if it's okay...can I see?

Y-, you do?

[THIS IS KINDA AWKWARD this he may or may not have bluffed a little bit. He can't quite make fireworks like that. Not with different colors anyway. He can't even get his own flame quite right.]

[But...he did sort of put himself on the spot now. So he sat up a little straighter and had to prove, something.]

[Which eventually was an ordinary looking flame floating in his hand. It still wasn't a firework or an explosion though. It's not even that close to the same thing. So he tried pushing the spell a bit further, in a certain way he wasn't quite used to.]

[The flame began to crackle, sparking in every which place. Emizel winced from it for a second so not to burn his face from it. Until it finally stabilized itself into a simple sparkler, even if a tiny one.]

Ohhh! [ Vivi applauds enthusiastically, clearly impressed. His expression, as much of it can be seen, is wide-eyed in clear fascination. ]

I can make fireballs, but I can't make them sparkly like that... [ He's watching with wonder. ] That's so cool...

[The sparkler jittered slightly as Emizel heard applause.]

You-- You like it? [But it was such a small, little thing. Barely worth anyone's time. It's not even his best work...]

It wasn't that hard to make...

[Of course, now he sort of outed that he never had done it before!]

Uh... [An awkward pause. Eventually, he lets it fizzle out of his hand.]

If you have fire magic, it's pretty easy.

Yeah! It's pretty! And you can make it different shapes, which means you can control it good, right?

[ He conjures an orb of fire in his hands, but try as he might, he can't make it sparkle and fizzle the way Emizel can. It resolutely remains a fiery, incandescent sphere, no matter how he squints and frowns at it.

He lets it fade.
]

I can't really do that... I think it's kind of stuck. I can make it stronger or bigger, but I can't change the shape.
trademark_skull: (I'm hella rad)

[Emizel watched. And kept watching. But sure enough, Vivi just couldn't do it.]

Heh... It probably is because I am a pretty strong daemon then.

[That must be why.]
