tea party

WHO: Toki, Kano, Peter, Gon, Maya, Yuya, Ekkehardt, Imelda
WHERE: Lumière dorms
WHEN: early during the first week of school
WHAT: screaming and dying and tea parties
WARNINGS: screaming and dying and tea parties... broken arms, bears, Lumière deserves a warning in general
NOTES: a continuation of this thread

[Toki doesn't know what happened, but there's a weird guy in a red costume, and a talking bear. He doesn't recognize Gongenzaka's voice, because he doesn't pick on those things.]

Am I dead?

[Because that would make this make sense.]

[ Luckily for Kano, Ekkehardt is a surgeon and a healer as well as trained in first aid; magic means some things can be taken care of much more quickly.

Kano being a Contracted complicates things a little - he tries not to use magic for them unless he has to - but this is serious enough that he thinks he can risk it.
]

Try not to move. [ He kneels and focuses his attention entirely on Kano's arm, locating the injury in more detail, and makes a small tch noise. ]

It's a clean break, at least.

[ He pulls out a roll of bandages, carefully directing them to weave tightly around Kano's arm, and then...

Well, the good news is that Kano can't feel the pain from a broken arm any more. The more alarming news is that he can't really feel his arm any more??

But hey, at least it doesn't hurt so he can hopefully stop screaming.

[ He makes a mental note of all those little scars, but doesn't ask. That's something for another day. He methodically examines the boy's arm, apparently ignoring Kano's question at first. ]

You fractured two bones in your arm. Luckily - though I doubt you feel lucky at this moment - there's nothing more severe than that.

[ White light plays along Kano's arm as he talks; Ekkehardt keeps his focus on coaxing the bones to speed up their regrowth, using the bandages to keep his patient's arm straight. ]

You'll be fine, though your arm will be sore. You won't have to wear a cast, but I'll need to put a binding on your arm so that they won't set crookedly. It should wear off after a few days...

[ And then he finally responds. ]

...No, it won't fall off. I've numbed it so you don't feel the pain as I fix it. [ He sounds a bit amused. ] If I had to perform an amputation, I would have told you as much. That's an entirely different procedure.

[ That he has also apparently performed considering how easily he talks about it. ]

[ He's just going to splint that arm and not respond at first. He slowly lets feeling return to Kano's arm, which is probably, by this point, feeling pretty sore. ]

Amputation is a little extreme for a headache. [ Understatement of the year. ] Unless you're capable of functioning without a head, which is an entirely different situation and your own business.

[ Talking about weird things keeps the mind focused off pain, so he's going to keep doing that. ]

Do you really think I'm going to cut off your head without asking first? [ He seems to find the idea funny. ]

I can't imagine an appropriate reason for cutting a child's head off, myself, so you'll have to enlighten me on whether there truly is any good reason for it.

[ He reserves that kind of thing for adults. Besides, decapitation is so messy. There are cleaner, more subtle ways to ease someone's passage into the afterlife, whether for mercy-killing or for disposal.

Not that he's going to say that.
]

Well, considering you survived this fall, you're probably well on your way to roachhood. Survivability is a good trait to have.

I'm a battlefield medic, not a combatant. My goodness, what a violent life you must think I lead.

[ He says, fully knowing he's demonstrated reflexes a doctor, even one with combat experience, wouldn't really need. ]

Luck is also a good attribute to have, though alas, it's not something you can cultivate.

[ He puts the finishing touches on that splint and bandage and raises his hands from Kano's arm. All done. ]

It's my hope you'll avoid playing on roofs until your arm is fully healed. Or until you've learned to not break your arm falling off them.

A few days. Five to a week, to be absolutely certain.

It will be sore for a while even after it's healed, so at least try to be careful with it, won't you? [ He says this with the tone of someone who doesn't exactly expect to be cooperated with, because he knows Kano well enough that he'll probably be getting back into trouble in no time at all. ]

Fixing these kinds of injuries is what I'm here for, but I'd rather not have to keep treating them, if it's at all possible. [ Even with magic, it's still a painful and distressing thing to break bones and sustain large injuries, after all. ]
