New York, New York
Who: Michael and the Drama Club
What: Drama Club class trip to NYC! Gonna see the sights! Absolutely not fight any monsters in the subway tunnels!
Where: A plane / New York City
When: March 29 - March 31
Warnings: None anticipated?
Flyin' High
[The flight to America leaves late - a necessity, given that it's the last day of finals and some students may still have had tests to take. But it's going to be a long one anyway, so sleeping through as much as possible is probably a good idea.
Fortunately, the group has first-class seats. Michael's always willing to spend Daybreak's money, and he's never bothered with human air travel before. He wants the best out of this experience!
This is probably a good thing, because the flight is so, so long. Hopefully you can get some rest.]
Out and About
[We've got a few days to kill in the city!
Michael doesn't want any students going out entirely alone, but he's only one professor and there's a lot of them, so he doesn't mind if people break off to do their own things so long as they're at least partnered up. There's plenty to do in New York, after all! There's no way for one person to see it all during this trip!
Of course, the hotel is also pretty nice, for when you get tired of walking. There's several suites for the students to divide among themselves, while Michael has his own room nearby. It's attached to one of the student rooms by a door which he has very clearly locked and may or may not ever answer. He probably shouldn't be a chaperone.]
Daemons for Ham
[It's time to go see Hamilton! Where did Michael get tickets? Don't worry about it.
He snaps his fingers before the group leaves the hotel, and suddenly you all look like child versions of yourself. Or, at least, what Michael imagines you looked like as children; he only knew a few of you at that time, so he's just making stuff up.]
Now, if anyone speaks to you, you're all orphans from, oh, eight to twelve, and you're dying. Don't take off the illusions, no running - can anyone cry on command? This is important Drama Club stuff.
[And off we go!]

Michael | OTA
[Unfortunately, Michael.
Sleeping on the overseas flight would be a good idea, if you were a human person that required sleep. Michael is not. So he spends a lot of time with his chair fully reclined, playing dumb games on his phone, or wandering the first-class cabin and peering at his students in hopes of finding a distraction.]
Hey. Are you awake?
City
[Despite all the guidelines he's laid out, Michael is absolutely abandoning all the students in the hotel late one night to go wander the city streets!
That's assuming, of course, that all the students are actually still in the hotel. He didn't check. But he's out searching for fun and weird supernatural stuff, so if there's anybody breaking curfew, chances are good that he'll run across them.
It's just that it's been so long since he went for a really good prowl. Big, populated cities like this attract all sorts of things - Michael's been one of those things, trolling around dark alleys and shady magical districts for mortals to play with. At least this time his intentions are a little better. Maybe he'll stop somebody from killing a human, or find some neat magical artifacts to bring back to the school. Oooh, maybe a student to bring back to the school? That would be so cool!]
Hamilton
[Michael, honestly, only went for this show because of the hype. If you tell him that he won't be able to get tickets for something, naturally that will become his only goal in life!]
So, what's this even about?

Plane
Yes! Can we explore the rest of the plane or go see the pilot!?

[He frowns thoughtfully; he has no idea if you can get into the cockpit or not.]
We can try. [And this is how they got arrested on terrorism charges or something]

Hamilton
[Yuya's watched it on recording, at least. Mostly he enjoyed the songs and the costumes, but all the historical context was thoroughly lost on him.
Although he's more concerned about this illusion, absently inspecting his arms.] Are you sure this is going to work...?
[Why do they even have to be dying orphans, again?]
no subject
Sure, sure. Once it starts, no one's going to be looking at us anyway. They're barely looking at us now.

Why are we taking a plane?? Didn't the novel experience get old after the first half hour???
[ Michael shouldn't be bound by time and space, and neither should they, seeing as he was able to take Kano across the mortal plane from 234529085 feet in the air back to the ground in a fraction of a second. ]
Sore butts aren't worth this experience, Michael, you can do better!!
no subject
[One, Michael wanted to try a plane, but two and most important: he doesn't really have anybody in New York to draw him a sigil.]
Assuming no one's going to be sick. Humans don't always take well to my form of it. You did okay, but Nana can barely handle the airplane.

[This is actually pretty nice, he admitted. He settles deep into the seat, opening an eye when a flight attendant offers drinks, including champagne]
Oh... I'm actually not old enough. I'll just have coffee.
[He starts to looks through the menu, his brows shot up in shock]
This is better than anything I've ever eaten in my life.
Out in the city
[He supposes while he's here, he should see what the fuss is about, after asking the staff, he works his way through the subway system - and just cringing and shying away from the weirdness that occupies the subways. And eventually he finds himself Central park where he's strolling through the Zoo, seeming much more relaxed and approachable than he has been for the entire time he was at the Academy, watching the penguins getting fed]
Daemons for Ham
What... hey! What the hell?!
[After the initial outburst, he covers his mouth]
Sir... I really don't think it's going to work.

OTA;
[Choosing stops at random on the subway, Toki has somehow ended up in the Flatiron District at Madison Square Park. He's not sure what to do first, but he has a few options. Gathering information from his phone, he presents three of them.]
There's a playground in the park or a barbecue place where you can watch them roast the whole pig or The National Museum of Mathematics~! What sounds good to you!?
02. [HOTEL]
[Toki has forgone the prearranged hotel rooms. He has something else in mind. After negotiating with the front desk, he has managed to obtain the penthouse suite, as well as getting food catered for the obligatory "We're in New York" party (aka a surprise party for Minako, shh). Which is more of a hang out than an actual party, but the penthouse has a great view. He'll send out a mass text later to invite everyone, including Michael. For now, he has things to find. He approaches the first student found with an invitation for his mission.]
Hey, you want to help me with something~!?
03. [HAMILTON?]
[Michael's approximation of Toki's child self still has light hair and mismatched eyes; neither of which he had as a kid. His shirt is pink with a sparkly unicorn on it. It's cute, and he's happy with the selection. However, he has no desire to go watch a musical about American history. At all. But, he can cry on command. He's not going to Hamilton.]
I don't wanna see a play! Don't make me go!
[His voice is whiny and even more shrill coming out of the tiny body. There's many tears.]
Hamilton???
Well, you could have mentioned it before, this was on our schedule.

Nana Daiba | ota!
[Nana has not slept so well.
She gets airsick. This is a thing. Kano knows this is a thing; people who've been in a helicopter do. Sometimes the airsickness isn't so bad, or sometimes the medication knocks her out. Sometimes she forgets the medication and puts it in her checked luggage.
At oh fuck o'clock in the morning, Nana Daiba stumbles like the walking dead and sits down next to someone.
She is not sitting in her seat. It is arguable if she knows this. It is impossible that she cares. She looks to the person next to her and says:]
Mwuuurrrgggh.
B. LET'S BE TOURISTS TOGETHER!
[Give her a good few hours of sleep and some food, and Nana is back to her usual, cheerful, peppy self. She's away from finals! She's away from doubts and fears about her entire life! She's going to see Hamilton but that's not tonight.
Today, it's time to be tourists.
Nana stands in Times Square, with a big list -- it's written on stationary, decorated with bananas and frogs. She's drawn additional of both, along with little cartoony sketches of the New York City skyline and famous landmarks. The list has a lot of things: the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park, the cafe from Friends, and a few different stores and pizzerias and cafes.
She turns to whoever's with her, claps her hands, and says eagerly:] Okay! Where should we go next? Aaah, I'm so excited I might fall off the tree...
[Apparently excited bananas do that?]
C. HAMILTON (GATHERING FOR IT)
[Everyone's gathering in the lobby to walk over to Hamilton (except maybe Toki). But... Nana is running late...?
This is strange. She was excited about it. She kept talking about it constantly. She listens to the soundtrack all the time. Minako's caught her mutter-singing songs from the soundtrack in her sleep. And yet, she's not--
Oh.
She comes down the stairs without an ounce of embarrassment or self-consciousness, but Nana is dressed in a big blue coat, breeches, a vest, ruffled shirt, and a powdered wig with a tricorn hat. Yep. She's cosplaying. And seems moderately confused no one else is, maybe.
And she's a child-version of that, too. This doesn't look suspicious.]
Okay!! Let's go! We don't want to miss our shot... at getting there early!

His gaze is heavy with sleepiness, but he's still out here with Nana because he still wants to experience New York. He's got a flavored latte to go, it's fine, he's fine. He's got this.]

[ Minako is one of those lucky people who can't sleep on a plane, and so, she is looking for something to do to keep her pre-occupied. If her row-mate is still awake, that's easy enough, and means she doesn't have to get up. But with the flight lasting almost 10 hours, she's going to need more than endless games of War to keep her entertained.
And so, after walking up and down the first class cabin a bit, the teen plops down next to you, headphones in hand. ]
Hey, let's watch a movie! I wonder what they've got on here.
( A SLICE OF THAT PIE )
[ She's never been to NYC, but if television and movies have prepared her for anything, it's that this is the place to get food.
The first morning they're there, she attaches herself to the nearest willing body, a bright grin on her face. ]
Okay, so, I've got a list of pizza places all within a mile radius of here. We'll start from there and work our way out.
[ Time to find out who has The Best slice in town! ]
( HARD-KNOCK LIFE )
[ Michael knew her at least in passing as a kid, so her illusion is pretty convincing—short hair, scraped knees barely poking out under her skirt, and a charming gap where her two front teeth were supposed to be.
Normally Minako would be bummed because she dressed up for this, but seeing pint-sized versions of her friends is great. Good job, Michael! Her hand shoots up immediately. ]
Ooh, I can be the leader!
[ She's got experience. Also look at that (toothless) grin. How can anyone say no to that? ]
( MUSIC CITY: CLOSED TO REN )
[ She doesn't suspect a thing. The only clue that Minako has that there's something about to happen is the insistence that she get ready to go... Somewhere. It's they're last day in the Big Apple, so obviously that means they're cramming as much tourist-y things in as possible, right?
So she's surprised when someone knocks on the door first thing in the morning, and even more so when she opens it, considering it's Ren standing there. ]
...Good morning?
[ She's chipper, but so very, very confused. ]
( WILDCARD )
[ If you have ideas for a prompt, hmu at
impearls or over Discord! ]
Slice of Pie
[It's not like Michael will have any particular ill effects from eating like forty slices of pizza. He leans over to peer at the list.]
Don't you want to eat anything else, though?
