Reverend Reverend please come quick 'cause I got something to admit
Who: Ernesto OR Héctor + TWO Mingle spaces
What: TOUR AND A MOVIE PART TWO; STARING YOU? + NECROMANCY; HONEST EFFORTS (a.k.a, Héctor's failed revival this month is a truth spell.)
When: April, late in the month
Where: A filming location in Soliel, Daybreak Academy
Warning: N/A
Notes: People affected by Héctor's accidental truth spell can also bring this into the movie mingle. Have you ever lied without actually lying? Now's the time to learn!
TOUR AND A MOVIE
Filming is ramping up.
Just as before, Higher Daybreak faculty are encouraging participants to see this as a way of learning to use their magical skills in a way that is discrete and ensures the protection of the Veil. It's spoken of as a chance for students to better learn how to hide their abilities while still putting them to use, disguising them as various other talents. In turn, they'll be credited in the film's production once it's complete, as well as receive extra credits in related courses. And of course, besides the great publicity, what better way to make a hit movie than adding a magical touch to it?
While work around the set continues to be welcomed and encouraged, this month filmmakers are particularly keen on finding those who can fill a newly opened role for an extra! Daybreak students are being to the very rare and special opportunity to audition in, without even going through the gruelling ordeal of terse agents, discouraging phone calls, and dull waiting areas! Just line right up and give it your best!
The following roles are open:
-Kindly and Adoring Town's Person Number Five
-Irritable Officer Number Two
-Overdramatic Restaurant Employee (or Customer, adjusted to match ages)
On top of this extraordinary opportunity, the winning student will be treated to a day on the town with De La Cruz himself.
On top of all this, with the improving weather, more scenes are being shot outside and in the heart of Soliel. It's quite possible to wander on set entirely by accident! Just remember that maintaining the laws of the Veil during this important project is still of utmost importance.
~~~~~~
HONEST EFFORTS
Nothing happened. He took precautions, he followed the spell, he did everything right. He double-checked the runes and then triple checked the cage he'd set himself up in. There was light, there was energy, a whole burst of it shooting up around him and then darting out past the walls (and over the campus). And then nothing. He was still just as dead as before. He wasn't even a different kind of dead like his usual screw-ups led to. He made a flashy light show and nothing more. In a fit of frustration, he scraped the whole circle, packed up, and settled in to go back to work the next night.
But, with that morning, students and faculty alike around Daybreak may find themselves afflicted with a sudden need to be a little more candid than usual. Maybe a lot more candid.
The urge for honesty may manifest in being suddenly unable to lie-- either directly or at all. It might mean talking way too much. Maybe it means confessing things you've been bottling up, or simply showing who you are inside when you'd normally be inclined to hide it. It might just be something small and simple going throughout the day. Or, it could build into something so overwhelming it becomes impossible to bear until the truth is out. It varies from person to person and does, eventually, go away.
But it also may be intensified in those who might be just a bit too close to a certain someone...
Héctor | OTA
It was not nothing. He knows that now. He knows that more and more with each passing stranger who tells them something he really didn't need to know. He knows more and more with each minute he bites down on the urge to confess... well... too many things, really. This might kill him. It actually, really, might get him killed-- double dead!-- if he can't get this under control. It's early evening and the students haven't quite cleared the hall and there's a building need to shout overhead, so he does the only thing he can think to do-- dive for the nearest door and close himself inside.
With whoever's in there.
B
There are still jobs to do, meetings to attend, tutoring sessions to complete. He considers calling out of some but in other cases it may be too late. Unless he can think of something quick, he's in trouble.
"So!" He squeaks. "How have things been going for you?"
Nailed it. They'll be so busy talking, he won't have to.
C
If he doesn't say something, he'll surely go to pieces. It builds and builds and builds and he knows once he gets it out, he'll be free. Or, maybe that's the curse talking.
It doesn't matter. He's already climbing a fountain in Soliel, catching the eye of several De La Cruz fans who'd been trying to get an autograph. Ernesto himself is disappearing inside, but his security are still around to hear it when Héctor shouts over the crowd.
"I didn't steal his songs! He stole mine! All this fame is for music I wrote! You were supposed to be my friend, you--"
He cuts off. It's either because someone is dragging him down off the fountain to help him, or it's because some member of security (or a hunter clan) has decided to deal with things directly.
Security are looking Héctor's way. He takes a quick glance at their uniforms, ducks into an alleyway, and another security guard with glasses climbs the fountain to try and grab Héctor before he gets into trouble with actual security.
He could probably use a little help making the getaway, though. ]
[Kokoro's sitting in the library, studying... and then she just stops, puts down the book, and picks up a teen magazine. She's not hiding it like last time, and she seems to be just as deeply studying that. What's going on?]
"These phone cases will change your selfie game..." Surely that must be important to someone, or they wouldn't publish it.
[b]
[Or you can find her sitting at the edge of the Cross of Life, apparently lost in thought, until she looks up and says out of nowhere:]
I'm not okay.
B
...Apologies if I'm disturbing you.
[But he makes no effort to leave. In fact, he instead takes a seat beside her, his normally sharp red eyes turning toward her.]
ilargia | ota
[Ilargia doesn't think much about the light show in the middle of the night - they're well aware they're in a school for magic. Magic happens at all hours, and it's not like it concerns them.
And then time passes, and they start to feel... Strange.
They want to talk to people more - they want to tell people things that don't matter at all, they have questions that need to be asked, and it's all just so alien and strange that for a moment Ilargia isn't sure what the cause is. Those lights, perhaps...? But who was behind the lights? What kind of monster would give people these compulsions?
They sigh, hands going to their cheeks. They look over at whoever happens to be passing by, and sigh again. It's all very dramatic. When they speak, their voice is a whine.]
I think I should have chosen a more attractive form.
[...Yeah.
Those are the sorts of deep, dark secrets they have.]
b;
[Time continues to pass, with Ilargia somehow managing to embarrass themself more and more. That's just what the truth does, it seems, and Ilargia is someone with a lot of secrets.
They're sitting on a bench on campus, staring straight ahead. They don't blink, and it doesn't even seem like they're breathing. They're just completely, unnaturally still.
And then they speak, not caring if they have an audience or not.]
Humans haven't changed as much as you would think they would, but they've forgotten who I am. [Their eyes narrow.] I want to make them regret that, but I don't know how. Nobody cares, any more.
[It's existential crisis time, baby.]
b
Why care about what humans think of you? [ It seems a pointless endeavor. Her father tried it, and there's little left of him now. ]
A.
[Jail has never even spoken to Ilargia before, but does that matter? Heck no. Hot god sad. She has priorities.]
What's not to like about all this? [She gestures generally at all of their physical existence.] You look great. Someone been giving you shit about it or something?
b
They hop up onto the bench next to them.
(It takes a minute. They're very small.)]
That seems silly. The ones who have forgotten you are gone. If you were going to take revenge, it would make more sense to be on them.
[That's just what they think.]
Is being forgotten so bad? You can be someone new now.
[Avery stares straight ahead in his seat, looking almost tired. The statement comes out of the blue.]
You know, ridiculous as it is, some days I almost miss her.
B -- Joint thread with Ekke. Frighten your character something fierce.
[Have you ever seen Avery this happy before? It's definitely surreal. Frightening, maybe. Wrong. But every time he's with Ekkehardt lately, his entire face seems to light up, and he's holding hands, whispering little nothings, and even planting kisses on the lich's cheek whenever he gets the chance.]
You know it's all your fault that I love you, right?
B
The remark gets a soft little laugh. ]
Ah, did I charm you into loving me with all the arguing? [ His voice is, for once, just teasingly fond, rather than pointed and terse as it usually is around his colleague
and boyfriend??. ] It wasn't intended, but I can't say I'm not happy with the result.(no subject)
You know, I once sat in on one of the Home Ec classes. They were baking a cake and I thought I'd get involved. Why not, eh? Free food is free food!
Becky | A & B OTA, C for Lia
Y'know, I feel like being in here practically every day's been doing me more harm than good, lately. I need to start letting myself actually do more other things for once.
[Yep, she totally just blurted that out while sitting at her usual table, flipping through various notes and other things.
The look on her face when she realizes that she actually said it makes it obvious that it wasn't exactly intentional.]
Uh.
B: (on her way to Lumière, or in Lumière itself)
[It hadn't taken especially long to figure out that something was causing her to speak her mind without any real filter whatsoever. So, in the early evening, after having put in her usual time at the infirmary (or most of it, anyway; she excused herself a bit earlier than normal), Becky begins making her retreat to Lumière, though even the shortest routes she could take will lead her past various other places, and most likely other people.
Her refusal to use the elevator when she gets there, however, means she'll be passing the other floors as she goes up the stairs to the fourth floor, where her room is.
She hopes she won't find herself stopping along the way.]
C: (Lumière 403)
[Once she's finally in her room, she shuts down her laptop—which she'd left on earlier to do a routine scan, defrag, and some other maintenance sorts of things while she was out—and then mutes her phone before setting that down next to it, followed by practically throwing herself into her bed after she climbs up onto it.
The sooner this feeling passes, the better; the sooner she stops feeling like she needs to spill every single bean in the general direction of anyone that so much as passes within ten feet of her, the sooner she can get back to actually doing stuff.]
A
I would have to agree to that for the both of us, Miss Rebecca. Sitting in the labs all day is doing horrible things to my skin. I propose that the Academy hosts an outdoor activity day that forces all of us outside into the sunshine for some fresh air and exercise!
[She just kind of blinks after her mouth decides to stop moving. Her skin? And here's no time to waste outside; things need to be researched! What is this nonsense?] Yes, that is a fabulous idea indeed! What kinds of outdoor activities would you wish to participate in? I need some ideas to present to the faculty at our next in-service meeting. [NO STOP]
He did notice the flash of light, having had a restless night. Everything seemed fine, though. Héctor was... well, not okay, but at least not cursed. Still dead. Another month and nothing to show. Doesn't affect his daily routine, of course. A hawk has to eat. Hunting goes alright, he has a full belly for the day and a little extra time to spare. And... a strange urge to talk. Talk and talk and talk, setting free every thought in his head.
So he lands next to the first familiar face he sees. And talk he shall. < Kind of strange that Daybreak is still one of the best things to happen to me, despite everything. >
B
Later on in the afternoon, during one of his afternoon classes, Tobias can take no more. The pressure inside of all the things he doesn't say. The four walls, the ceiling, the feeling there's no air to breathe. The thoughts of cages and squeezing pressure. Many, many worries, about friend's lives, his own, the fate of the world--you know, the usual. It isn't the first time. It won't be the past. Usually he can power through these moments by focusing on tapping notes into his phone with his beak and tongue... not today.
Not all honesty has to be spoken out loud. He spreads his wings without warning in the middle of the lecture, scoops up his phone and glides to the classroom's window, opening it with a bit of handy magic, swooping into the sky. Very rude for the quiet bird who rarely even speaks up, isn't it? Maybe someone should track him down later...
A
"You know... I've been thinking of that too, it's been the best thing for me for a long time... even with all that has happened." He admitted. "I'm not sure what that says about the both of us."
OTA -- the truth makes her grumpy though
[Emille looks tired today as she stands in front of her class, showing slides of various daemon biology information. As usual, she's stuck an image of a Dragon amidst everything else so she can have her daily anti-Dragon speech. It's routine. What isn't routine is how she stops dead in her tracks, sighs, and addresses the class.]
I feel like being frank with you today, class, so I want to let you in on something that has been on my mind for some time. [She gestures at the Dragon on the screen.] You see that Dragon there? It and all of its ilk are coming for us. I am not sure if we will be able to fight back and be victorious when hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of these beasts descend upon our world. Furthermore, their invasion will most likely occur around the time of Nightfall, when we will be at our weakest and most ripe for the harvest. Yes, you heard me. These Dragons wish to dine on all of us, and our chance of survival is low!
[She allows her assertive statement to echo through the room, which is so silent that a pin could drop and create a cascade of sound. Then, just as loudly as before, she continues:] However! The facts are frightening, but we have a way to fight back against those monstrosities. It is ill-researched as of yet, but we have reason to believe that Dragons are weak to the Radiance. We must have a strong will to fight and an even stronger will to win! Take that to heart, all of you.
[With that, Emille returns to the presentation, clicking past the image of the Dragon in order to continue discussing the properties of a werewolf's fur as if nothing had happened.]
B. The faculty lounge
[After class ends, Emille has found herself taking a break in the faculty lounge, sipping a cup of hot tea in the corner. She's absorbed in her own world, still dealing with the pent-up anger that surged out during her lecture, when she finds herself muttering to no-one in particular:]
I wish the people I worked with were more serious about Nightfall. If they were, we would be much more prepared for the Dragon, Herald, mage, daemon, whatever onslaught that is to come. [She grumbles into her tea mug.] It looks as if I will need to tap into a secret weapon or two of my own to make up for this incompetence.
[Yeah, just ignore the short scientist stewing in the corner. Surely things aren't as bad as she's making them out to seem.]
Ruadh | OTA
[Ruadh is still ultimately new to campus, so she's rather... well, used to getting lost. She doesn't like to admit it, though, and will normally insist to strangers that she is in fact fine, no matter how obvious it is that she isn't.
Unfortunately, that's not an option right now, so out and about the school, you can hear a small, despairing wail.]
Oh, I'm totally lost now...
B
[Being a new arrival, Ruadh is running around, looking through all the clubs. She doesn't actually want to join any of them, really, but it looks good on paper to be part of a club, and it also might help her blend in. And maybe she could even look for friends this way! ... Maybe not.
But she's going to at least go poke her head into most club rooms to try to get an idea for what they are and do. Of particular note to her, of course, is one certain "other" club. She isn't sure if she counts well enough for it, but no harm in trying, right?]
Anand | OTA
Regardless, Anand ends up flitting around campus after the weird magical mishap more than she has been, half-curious what the lightshow was about but mostly going about her business getting acquainted with this gigantic campus. She can be found in the library when she's not wandering, though, looking rather daunted at the massive collection of Seer writings there.
"That's...a lot more work than I thought," she says, aloud for some reason. Well, it's not like anyone really cares in a school library if she's not shouting.
((Prompt's there for library, but really, you can run into her anywhere.))
